Then on Sunday, things got weirder with the Sprint Cup at Pocono. Brad Keselowski won the race in decidingly normal fashion, but it was what happened before the race that was interesting. ESPN had some massive technical problems with their prerace show as advertisements and commercials interrupted the broadcast at all the wrong times. This led to hliariously mistimed breaks, awkward segues, and catching the studio trio of Nicole Briscoe, Rusty Wallace, and Brad Daugherty in off camera chit chat (including Rusty and Brad talking about a surely well-deserved pay raise). The whole episode makes your high school local access sports report look like the 11 pm SportsCenter. SportsGrid has the video...
Great example as to why Everett is working the late "late" night SC shift. Either he HATES the X-Games so much that he feels the need to cover up his feelings of hatred with facetious sarcasm OR he simply couldn't control the 3 shots of 5-hr energy his producer forced down his throat before going on air. Either way, you nailed it...One more outburst on SC and I think he deserves the boot from the SCATDMMWTBMBO
It did look more than a little forced, but maybe that was the caffeine talking. Given the number of prime-time hours ESPN devotes to the X-Games, he probably did feel the need to give it a big plug. ESPN is pretty good at self-promotion. I like Neil and am willing to give him a pass on this one - it's not like him. I like Berthiaume too but his wife drives me nuts with the "just a little crush" attempt at a catch phrase.
His freak-out reminds me of Lewis Black in the middle of his punch line...just spazzing out for no reason
I think he was trying to make the Xgames exciting. Nobody watches anyway and with all the NFL and MLB talk he had to do something different to get the audience attention. He should have used a different technique
What he did was a little bit different than what we are used to but it gives him a little bit of personality which isn't a terrible thing. But at the same time, it was slightly awkward.
Neil Everett is one of my favorite SC anchors and watching the video I didn't see him do anything wrong . Sometimes I'll stay up late just to hear his "Sportscenter! RIGHT NOW!!!" Him and Steve Levy are definitely my two favorites, and I think Berthiaume is great doing BBTN. Stuart Scott is probably the worst, and sometimes John Anderson's witty comments can get annoying. We should talk about Sportscenter anchors more on here.
Just watched the vid a couple of times. I didn't see anything that warranted an article though, so I hope this was an attempt at tongue-in-cheek humor.
I agree with @MarkElliotWishnia , just, breathtaking
