Dick Vitale's Annual Bubble Team Rant

Written by Brady Green on .

The brackets just came out and there are a couple of shockers. Most notably the inclusion of VCU and UAB in this year's tournament. To put it mildly, everyone on ESPN right now is pissed off about the bubble teams that were or were not chosen. Enjoy Dickie V's classic rant on this subject, and stay for the Roseanne Barr vs. Scarlett Johansson reference.

I hate this man with an intense, searing passion. Those of us who have listened to Kornheiser's radio show have gotten to know him pretty well-and I, for one, don't like what I've gotten to know. The man is a toxic narcissist, and your criticism of him here doesn't even begin to describe the things he says and does day in, day out that make even the thought of him send me into a flying rage. Just to describe one such incident, a few months ago, there was a summit of world leaders in Washington D.C., a few blocks from the PTI studio. Kornheiser, in his typical whining style, worried that the roadblocks from the conference would force his driving route to be diverted by a couple of blocks. He was worried that he would have to park further away and walk a couple of blocks to the studio. The reason he was worried? He was worried someone would recognize him on the street and say hello to him. His demand? A police escort to the studio. And he wasn't kidding. And *that's* just scratching the surface. Anyway, I don't care how he earns enemies, but the more people that hate him, the happier I am.

I love TK as much as the next guy, but when stories revolving around him keep filling the AA inbox, they need to be written about. I don't think anything that he said/did is malicious or horrifying, but the trend is questionable, especially when comparing the "craft and nuance" remark to throwing out those NASCAR allegations. As great as TK is on PTI and radio, it's only fair to point out these stories. Thanks for the comments.

I was listening to TK's show when he said this and, while I'm not his biggest supporter, it's crucial to put the comments in context. While he undoubteldy makes outlandish comments that are easy to pick out and slam, he made the Twitter remarks after reading an excerpt from Liz Clarke's column in Friday's Post (a pretty good read http://wapo.st/fWlcmh). His subsequent comments on Twitter and blogging, in context, were definitely less a commentary on the stupidity of modern sources of news and information than on how it's a shame that excellent writing, such as that in Clarke's column, often goes unread and unnoticed because people get their information elsewhere. I, for one, definitely spend more time on twitter than I do reading Liz Clarke or Bob Ryan or Whitlock or Tommy Craggs or any other sportswriter, no matter their medium. Am I missing out on good writing because of it? I'm sure I am. While it doesn't come out clear in the transcript, this was definitely the emphasis he was making.

As far as PTI goes, Clarke was the "60%" source, and I'm sure he didn't want to drop her name when making such a rediculous accusation.

When it comes to Snyder, though, it really is pretty weak that he just ignores the issue completely, especially given that his show is supposed to be one where conversation on all issues seems to be a point of pride.

I'd recommend anyone who sits at a desk during the day and can listen to music or whatever check out TK's show/podcast. It's a pretty decent show but the real benefit is, if you're a PTI nut, it makes watching the show in the evening much more enjoyable.
