Greg Gumbel Thinks He Works For ESPN

Written by Matt Yoder on .

That was a great game between UNC and Washington, but I can't help but think the Huskies should have won if it weren't for a couple D'Oh! moments down the stretch.  They turned the ball over several times and Venoy Overton evidently left his brain in Seattle.  To try and top that, UNC's John Henson had a magnificent last half a second by tipping Overton's heave out of bounds and almost goaltending what could have been a tying basket (if Isaiah Thomas wasn't inside the line).  It was a crazy finish, but the blunders kept coming afterwards.  Just watch the video below for one of the most hilarious of the tournament so far.  Maybe Greg's looking to move to Bristol?

A lot of people were up in arms about the Will Selva thing but I actually was willing to accept that as more of an honest mistake than the other examples you've cited (and the countless more than no doubt exist). The "Morning Roundup of Athlete Blogs" thing was so ridiculous that there really is no way to defend it on any level. It's bad enough that with all their resources and competitive advantages ESPN employees are still reading other sites and using them to gather information, but it's downright petty for them to be unable or unwilling to give those sites any credit. I would be very curious to hear what they thing would happen, I mean worst case scenario, if they were to actually attribute this stuff to the real sources. It's interesting to read some stories, or the bottom line, carefully to see how they attribute stories. Sometimes they will say that so-and-so reporter broke the news, but often times they will say so-and-so reporter CONFIRMED the news, which is a tacit admission that the news was broken elsewhere but that they are trying to take credit for it. Or that somehow it isn't real until ESPN has latched on to the story. That sort of parsing of words happens multiple times a day, and again, is just petty for an organization with every advantage over the competition.
