I was too young to remember Derek Jeter's debut in 1985. His first decade in the majors was pretty quiet until he began to make some noise in 1995.
How do you leave out both E.S. Posthumus masterpieces: NFL on CBS and MLB Tonight? And NBC's Sunday Night Football theme?
The NFL on FOX is (as Jim Ross would say) is 'By Gawd Awful!'
I can't possible have respect for the Olympic theme when it was the original theme for Brisco County Jr. That as bad as NBC using the old TBS Saturday night World Championship Wrestling theme for the 82 World Series.
Not a hockey fan, but ESPN's old NHL theme was as great a playoff pump anthem as NBC's old NBA theme. But not as funky as CBS's old theme.
But the CBS's College Football theme is probably the best of all time. It sound really captures that it is a big college event (much like NBC's College basketball theme in the 70's).
Jeez, I'm showing my age!
Ryder Cup theme WAY too high. Monday Night Football theme still No. 1 in American sports. Olympic theme was better with the old ABC version.
Good list...call me crazy but I like John Williams' Sunday Night Football theme as well, as out of place as it may seem for a football game.
I think John Tesh's NBA on NBC will stand as one of the best of all-time.
I love that the Wimbledon theme was included here. I wish you had the actual video to go along with the sound. UNFORTUNATELY... NBC uses a significantly shortened version of the theme nowadays and it is not the same.
I also agree that the old NFL on CBS theme was better...
Bravo Mr. Yoder. Definitely miss the old NBC NBA music. I thought the Olympics might be #1, but that's maybe because I love them.
The NFL on CBS game intro is just as good as the FOX theme, the NBA on ESPN is also up there, and obviously the MLB on FOX theme from the earlier 2000's. Come on!
I agree. This is a great list. Along with the NBA on NBC theme, I much prefer the previous NFL on CBS theme, used from 1998 to 2002 (and especially before Super Bowl XXXV, it was slightly modified for that game and after that point).
The background movie presentation during the music during the open of a game was top notch too. This one is from 1998 and frankly I can't remember how long it was retained.
