NBC Jacksonville anchor will not stand for Bob Costas impeding on his time

Written by Matt Yoder on .

Bob Costas is one of the most respected and recognizable sportscasters who has ever lived and is anchoring his 9th Olympics.  Dan Hicken is the local NBC sports anchor in Jacksonville.  What do these two names at the ends of the sportscasting spectrum have to do with each other?  Well, you see, Dan Hicken is mad as hell with Bob Costas taking up seven minutes of his precious airtime, and he's not going to take it anymore!!!  How dare Bob Costas, sole keeper of the Olympic flame and NBC television schedule, postpone this earth shattering Jacksonville sportscast for seven minutes.  The nerve of that guy!  PEOPLE OF JACKSONVILLE RISE UP!!!  LOCAL SPORTSCASTERS RISE UP!!!  YOU ARE THE 99%!!!

I love how upset Dan Hicken is and wonder why more newscasters don't display their displeasure with a sporting event cuting into or making a local newscast start later???

Has Dan Hicken ever done something like that before?

Speculation is that NBC is intentionally making the primetime Olympics coverage run late because all of the ABC Owned and Operated local stations are running brief 6 or 7 minute newscasts at Midnight ET/PT 11PM CT/MT as an attempt to compete with the local NBC stations' newscasts. By making the Olympics coverage run late, people watching the Olympics will miss these newscasts on the ABC stations and will have to stay tuned to the NBC station if they want news.

"I'm glad we got to interview Michael Phelps six times!" Maybe the highlight of the whole video....
