Olympic segment oblivious to state population variance

While NBC's Olympic coverage has drawn the ire of a lot of sports enthusiasts for a variety of reasons, their effort to appeal to a broader audience outside has certainly been successful with high ratings and a general buzz across the web in addition to replacing the weather as the most safe small talk topic.

The Today Show, Ryan Seacrest, and the hysteria of Women's Gymnastics will certainly do that.

Among the various features and segments in NBC's content arsenal has been frequent updates on the games reaction spanning the social web. I've found some of these to be interesting but for the most part, I have been rolling my eyes hoping to rejoin one of the events. Yesterday, I found the segment below to be a painful example of the fluff that we've seen.

California, Texas, New York, and Florida. It's quite the mystery on why those states would have the most FB fans of the Fab 5. The addition of the map calling out those states was a helpful visual aid as well. Sometimes I forget where those are. I often get New York confused with Utah.

In another shocker, those four states represent the states with the largest audiences of this site. It's probably because California and New York are meccas of the sports media industry. Joe Buck was born in Florida and is awful so that explains that. Craig James is from Texas and his handsome mug is on our site and sometimes we make fun of The Longhorn Network hence the reason we get traffic from Texas.
