Legendary Dodgers announcer Vin Scully is no stranger to witnessing questionable calls. But during the Dodgers-Rockies game Monday night, his attempt at lip reading an infuriated manager may have been new ground even more him.

Shane Victorino came up to the plate for the Dodgers and lined a shot to Rockies centerfielder Dexter Fowler. From the live shot, it looked like a great catch and that was the initial cal on the field.

Eventually, “Shave those sideburns” Don Mattingly of the Dodgers came out to argue that he thought the ball was trapped and the call was reversed (wrongly). That’s when Rockies manager Jim Tracy ran out of the dugout to take his turn arguing the call.

As the heated manager/umpire confrontation you've seen a million times gets started, announcer Vin Scully tries to help the television viewing audience at home by lip reading what Tracy is saying.

While translating, Scully said in most G-rated way possible “He caught the ball. He caught the blinkin’ ball. He caught the darn ball.”

The G-Rated cursing gets better. As Tracy gets heated enough to throw his hat on the ground and proceed to get tossed by the umps, Scully throws out this doozy of a lip read “That is blinkin’ fertilizer.”

Blinkin? Fertilizer? Insinuated cursing never sounded so beautiful. Which is why you have to tip your hat to Scully. Out of all the BS (excuse me, fertilizer) he has seen, he still finds ways to make you wish he was the announcer for your team.
