Oh the joys of college football's silly season!  Nowhere is that sillier than the SEC where crazy rumors, reports, and whispers emerge hourly regarding the major job openings at Tennessee, Auburn, and Arkansas.  It's at that last school where one of the more amusing circumstances in reporting happened today amid reports Mike Gundy may… or may not be taking the Razorbacks job.

Arkansas Democrat-Gazette sportswriter Tom Murphy tweeted a report that barring unforseen circumstances, Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy will leave the Cowboys to coach the Razorbacks…

All well and good (and I do like the double entendre of Arkansas finding their "man"), except for the fact that 17 minutes later Arkansas Democrat-Gazette sports columnist Wally Hall said the Hogs have their coach.  And it's not Mike Gundy…

Yep, that's two writers from the same Arkansas paper reporting that Mike Gundy is both in and out at Arkansas.  Seems that Wally Hall won this intra-paper reporting duel as Murphy backed off his initial tweet, saying negotiations are ongoing… which may or may not mesh with the Hogs having their man.  And who knows, by the time you read this story, Jon Gruden will also be reported to have and not have accepted the position.  Nevertheless, I'd say the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette safely has all sides of this story covered!

I can't wait to see the reaction when it turns out Arkansas hired Gene Chizik, though.

UPDATE: Arkansas' man is Wisconsin coach Bret Bielema
