A new "golf lifestyle" channel is coming to a cable system near you according to the Hollywood Reporter, and one of the founders of the network is none other than Dirty Harry himself, Clint Eastwood.
The network, called Back9 Network, is scheduled to launch later in the spring. Eastwood's role with the network will include meeting with the company's management each quarter to go over programming choices, as well as talent for the network. Eastwood owns the Telama Golf Club in Carmel, California, and is one of a few investors in Pebble Beach, one of the most famous courses in the world.
Eastwood has reportedly already viewed the pilots that the network has already produced, and been interviewed by LPGA tour golfer (and model) Anna Rawson for a show called You're So Money.
Some of the other pilots that the show has produced already include Extreme Golf (which is apparently a reality-style show with celebrities golfing in bizarre locations), Lucky Me With Jackie Flynn (which features a comedian I've never heard of visiting fancy golf courses...I guess the gimmick of the show is that Flynn is a blue collar comic and there will be ZANY ANTICS as he goes to a high-class course), and Hole Lotta Love, a reality show where a guy or gal plays golf with prospective mates and eliminates them by each hole.
One would think a startup golf channel faces an uphill battle in the marketplace thanks to the presence of the GOLF CHANNEL. Also, this programming sounds completely terrible. When I watch golf, and the Golf Channel for that matter, I watch it to escape from the oodles of horrendous reality shows and gimmicks that populate television everywhere. When I'm watching golf, I want to relax, not wonder why in the hell Frank eliminated Jenna from their dating contest after she bogeyed the third hole.

Hawk took over for the late Don Drysdale about 25 yrs ago. I didn`t care for him. He his like a crazy old uncle who grows on you over time. Now that I live on the west coast, I don`t know which cookie cutter Kuiper I am listening to when I watch the Giants and A`s. I can`t wait to catch a game on WGN. Chicago sports fans are loyal and passionate. Hawk fits the bill . God bless him. Go Sox
Wegner is one of the worst umps in the majors-doesn't even belong in the majors. Beckham and Pierzynski were both hit before this incident and no warnings were issued. Then, Quintana throws behind Zobrist and Wegner immediately ejects him. Have to hope for a suspension for this for Wegner. All in all, the umps in the majors have been getting worse every year. These guys, as a rule, are fat, out of shape and have to have a freakin' conference every time something happens. They are confused about the rules and are thin-skinned and quick to eject. The so-called "commissioner" has got to step up and start disciplining these guys.
Hawk harrelson is as bad as they ge. it if was the other way around he would have praised the ump. Harrelson is everything a play by play man shouldnt be. He is far worse at his job than umpiresare....and that is saying something, If that wasnt intentional...I have a bridge to sell you in Brooklyn.
Hawk Harrelson is everything a local announcer should be. If he was a national guy I'd completely agree, but as a Whitesox fan listening to a local broadcast he's great. The type of guy non fans (understandably) hate, but oneof the most enjoyable in baseball if you're a fan of the team.
@Irishwillalwayssuck Oh yeah man, Hawk totally became a better announcer when the Sox sucked last year...NOT! Oh yeah, and the teams in first place in other divisions like the Dodgers, Nationals, and Orioles definitely have the most homer announcers ever...NOT!
Maybe you're the one who should get back to school because you've obviously never learned how to form a logical thought in your life.
@FireEricBruntlett Last I looked the A's are no where near first place. Well, there's always next year. Oh, and the A's do suck and with a bad team I can understand why your announcers aren't homers chucklehead. Take off the oil stained wife beater t-shirt, stay off the computer and get to class.
@Irishwillalwayssuck Wow, really? The A's suck because their announcers aren't "homers" enough for you? It surely can't have anything to do with bad offense! Gee whiz, and here I was thinking the White Sox are in first place because Dunn and Konerko have been ridiculous! But nope, it's all thanks to a broadcaster excruciatingly bad to anyone outside of the Sox fanbase. Jesus Christ, that was the dumbest thing I had read in a long, long time until three lines later, when you said, "Go back to beating your wife."
Who wants a milder home announcer? No wonder the A's suck. You want a national guy doing your games without passion, get Joe Buck. You find that annoying? Good. Go back to beating your wife.
You missed the best line at 1:30: "They have no business umpiring cuz they don't know what being a baseball is about!"
Also, did Hawk go to the Jim Ross School of Broadcasting, or the other way around?
Does anybody know why Tom Pacoriek filled in for Steve Stone for the last 3 games between the Chicago Whitesox at Tampa Bay Ray
@CUbsfan I think both Chicago teams usually give their color commentators one series off each year. This seems like a perfect time to take a series off because the Sox were at home on Sunday, played this 3-game series on the road, and are right back home on Friday. Seems like a good time not to bother traveling with the team.
Bob Brenly of the Cubs normally takes a series off in July usually in the series directly before or directly after the All-Star break
SpringRubber that isn't necessarily true though, because Bob Brenly took 2 series off last year and Frank Thomas fills in for Steve Stone during some CSN Chicago broadcasts too!
Not only that but dosen't 14 of the 30 MLB teams give their color commentator at least 1 series off per year on tv or radio???
This isn't including the Orioles,Indians,Royals,Bluejays, Yankees,Diamondbacks,Braves, Reds, Rockies, Mets,Cardinals or Padres who have more than 1 Color Commentator for their tv broadcasts or the Redsox,Indians,Royals, Angels,Twins, Mariners,Rangers, Bluejays,Diamondbacks,Reds, Astros,Padres, Pirates and Giants on tv and radio!
