Craig James shamelessly tries to boost his campaign by shilling for Rick Santorum

Written by Ryan Yoder on .

Yesterday we told you about some controversial statements made by Texas Senate candidate and former ESPNer Craig James.  Whether you suppport James's views on civil unions, his increasingly polarizing statements will make a future career in broadcasting, especailly back at ESPN, almost impossible.  At least, that's what fans of college football are hoping.1:05 PM Now, we also find out that Craig James is, upon all of his other "qualities" is nothing more than a bandwagon front-runner.  James's latest political ad focuses not on The Pony's own campaign, but shills for Republican GOP candidate Rick Santorum.  Why?  Is it because James and Santorum have developed a conservative bromance?  Maybe.  The more likely answer?  Santorum has nearly a 30-point lead in the Texas primary polls.

Give Craig James credit, the Houston Chronicle has the candidate all the way up to 7% from the 4% he was polling.  Hopefully James will continue to stick around in politics even after he loses his maiden race.  It's almost more fun to point and laugh at James the politician than James the announcer.

It also said in that column that Hannah Storm is back as host, Chris Fowler is back as host and calling matches and Mike Tirico will be calling matches too, he has also been a host and calling matches for the U.S. Open tennis tournament for ESPN2 for the last 2 years too!
