Fox 5 San Diego’s Ross Shimabuku made things very awkward on a recent local news broadcast during a segment about female NASCAR driver Danica Patrick.
In the video shown during this news segment, Patrick said, “I don’t quite understand when you’re referring to a girl, a female athlete in particular, that you have to use the word ‘sexy.’ Is there any other word that you can use to describe me?”
Shiambuku immediately responded to the video: “Oh I’ve got a few words. Starts with a ‘B’, and it’s not ‘beautiful.”
Yes… he clearly implied on the local news that Danica Patrick is a bitch. Incredibly unacceptable. I don’t care if you think Patrick is the worst person on the planet, you don’t (pretty much) refer to her as a bitch, or any other extremely derogatory term on a news broadcast. Shimabuku should spend a lot of time studying up on journalistic ethics.
Also, how badly do you think Kathleen Bade (the anchorwoman on set that defended Patrick) wanted to slap Shimabuku after that? I bet the ensuing commercial break had some fireworks.
