Being a fan of GOLTV's loquacious soccer analyst Ray Hudson, I had to share this clip of the eccentric Englishman describing the following goal from world player of the year Lionel Messi. The clip is from Barcelona's 4-0 win over Real Zaragoza back in November, but just showed up on YouTube. Watch as Ray is able to turn a rather simple and straight forward Leo goal into a lightning bolt from the gods as only he can...
"Does it the witching way Lionel Messi! Brilliance on steroids again!! The run, wonderful. The finish, impeccable. Leo ruthless once again. Wouldn't give you the smell off his cologne when he's got the goal in his sights."
"He would find the needle in the haystack by his sense of smell."
"When you go back on your fancy machines don't slow it down. Just let it right out in front of your eyes and you'll appreciate it ten times more. FLASH."
Of course my favorite line is describing Lionel Messi as "brilliance on steroids." Brilliance on steroids. I can't believe nobody thought of using that during Barry Bonds' home run chase...
2 themes running here...Brennaman stinks, Lions are dirty...both are correct! Throw in how " the smartest man in the room (Billick)" makes the stupidest comments and you have the TRIFECTA!!! Of course Fox either wants this or they are delugional about their announcing teams. ALL of their PBP guys are HORRIBLE!
Plus the amount of hyperbole he used. Every play on the last drive was the most important of Detroit's season because if they lost they still are in the Wild Card race which is.......exactly where they are right now
I have to be honest, I disagree with a lot of this post. First, I find Brennaman annoying. I think Billick is ok, but Brennaman is just annoying... And this is coming from a UF student/Tebow lover.
Second, I think this post is a huge overreaction. I didn't watch the game, but just listening to the two clips posted, I think its an overreaction. He might have been over the top with pushing the story line of the Lions being a dirty team, which they are by the way, but saying he should be fired is just ridiculous. I think he should be fired because he stinks, but not because of this.
@PackerFan 1) That's fine - I said I'm probably in the minority in liking him and my reasons are more personal than by any objective standard.
2) So you think Brennaman's reaction in the videos above are normal? It'd be easier for you to understand how absurd they are if you actually watched the game. But, either way, don't misread what I wrote -- I never said he should be fired; I said FOX should consider fining him. A monetary sanction, not termination. Plus, I was kind of joking about that, because I don't think I've ever heard of an announcer being fined (at least I can't recall announcer fines ever being made public if they have).
@Packey 1) Agree to disagree.
2) I beg your pardon. I completely misread what you wrote. I think fining an announcer is a bit of a dumb idea, but I take back what I said about your overreaction. Nonetheless, I was definitely in the wrong here. My apologies.
PS - I still liked this post, just because it had analysis. I wish this blog had more of it.
THANK YOU! God Brennaman was awful. You could almost hear him jumping out of his chair every time a flag hit the ground he was so excited to bash the Lions for being "dirty."
