Charles Barkley is no stranger to speaking his mind and being honest about the issues that effect today's NBA. Recently, he spoke out on a radio interview in Philadelphia on 97.5 about the on-again, off-again, on-again, off-again, neverending, mindnumbing, dizzying, insanity-inducing trade saga. Now that the Brooklyn Nets, Dwight Howard's first choice, are officially out of the running this story will continue to drag on. Charles Barkley is fed up with it, which is true for 99.7% of America. This quote comes via USA Today:
"The last 24 hours it's been all Dwight Howard, non-stop," Barkley said. "It's not fun; nobody wants to hear it. It's not good for the game, not good for the fans. I'm really sick of it."
Forget the last 24 hours, what about the last 6 months?!?! I can think of few stories in sports that have been as persistently exasperating as this Dwight Howard quagmire. Barkley's point is well-taken though. This Dwight Howard mess is hurting the NBA in the big picture. As if the game hasn't had enough nefarious free agency and trade drama to deal with over the past two years with these superteams forming, players strongarming teams, and the commissioner himself playing kingmaker.
For the frustrations of Howard's flip flopping and the sheer length of time this has gone on, it's only topped by Brett Favre's many retirements in recent memory. You know a story like this has reached its tipping point when reporters and analysts openly mock the inanity of Dwight Howard's future when they discuss it on-air. Maybe, just maybe, there's an end in sight. Maybe the Magic can just ship Dwight Howard to Abu Dhabi and be done with it.
