You'll never guess who presented Tim McCarver with his Ford C. Frick Award...

Written by Matt Yoder on .

As if Tim McCarver winning the Ford C. Frick Award and being honored by the Baseball Hall of Fame wasn't enough, I noticed this tidbit in the Hall of Fame live blog of the ceremony honoring McCarver and Bob Elliott of the Toronto Sun from Saturday afternoon....

Well played... Well.  Played.  In all seriousness, Tim McCarver deserves the honor for his body of work in broadcasting, but that doesn't take away from the irony of this covergence of legendary forces in the present time.  Joe Morgan of Fire Joe Morgan fame giving the Ford C. Frick Award to Tim "S-T-R-I-K-E" McCarver.

If we ever construct an Awful Announcing Hall of Fame, Joe Morgan presenting the highest honor in baseball broadcasting to Tim McCarver is going in on the first ballot.

I remember the day The Mets dismissed him from his broadcasting job and was replaced by the pompous, full of himself (Hall Of Fame)pitcher Tom Seaver. The local sports/talk radio stations were flooded with calls from angry listeners of the Mets Broadcasts and put in their nasty comments about Tom Seaver as the new voice behind the mike.Mind you Tom Seaver did not even broadcast a Mets game yet. The love for Timmy in the New York market came through but as usual the Met front office Being CLUELESS refused to hire him back and Tim went over to the Yankees. The rest is history!!!

What is the Ford Frick award? It has to be for the most obnoxious announcer ever.
