Aaron Sorkin’s newest series, The Newsroom, debuted on HBO last night. Despite lofty expectations and a kickass trailer, critics were pretty unified that The Newsroom was a dud. The reaction on Twitter wasn’t much better although some held-out some optimism that the show had some hope. Personally I found the premise to be fine but the execution excruciating, which is odd considering the quality usually pegged to both Sorkin and HBO projects.

One of the more entertaining aspects of the show was the main character Will McAvoy (played by Jeff Daniels) being romantically connected to Erin Andrews on the show. In two different scenes, coworkers playfully brought up the subject that McAvoy was spotted during his recent vacation to the Caribbean with Andrews and that photos of them ran on TMZ. Funny, as TMZ recently did run photos of Andrews frolicking in the ocean, but not due to any romantic involvement but rather focusing on something else that rhymes with a possible smoob job.

Believable? Daniels is 57 and you’d think McAvoy is similar in age. Andrews is 34, thus leaving a presumed 23 year gap in age. Personally, despite McAvoy’s stature on the show, incredible wealth, good wardrobe, and the gift of gab, I can’t really buy that Andrews in any world, real or fake, would date such a character.

Andrews played along with the guise on Twitter which makes me wonder if she could potentially make a cameo in the series. Looking at the reception from the first episode, it would seem beyond wise for Andrews to have a multiple episode story arc to help pump the ratings. Either way, I probably won’t be watching, unless Michelle Beadle makes a cameo as a rival to Andrews. Now that would be interesting.
