The San Antonio Spurs defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 1 of their Western Conference Finals series Sunday night, although James Harden did give all you compulsive gamblers betting OKC plus the points an epic back door cover at the horn. Even though the game was one of the best in a dogged NBA postseason, the highlight came from the announce booth. In the first half, Harden and Manu Ginobili battled for a loose ball. In the scramble, Steve Kerr noticed the whistle of referee Joey Crawford falling out. He then dropped one of the contenders for announcing quote of the year…
“I thought maybe it was a small bird sneaking out of Harden’s beard… look at that thing, there’s gotta be a nest in there somewhere.”
Reggie Miller’s reaction is actually priceless (“A SMALL BIRD!?!?) as he and Marv Albert act as if Kerr had transformed into Gary Busey. Howver, the keen observer will sense a link from Kerr’s comments to Family Guy… because anything, ever, is related to one of The Simpsons, South Park, or Family Guy. James Harden’s beard is really just a creative tribute to Peter Griffin…
