My thought is, are all journalists supposed to know what all other journalists tweet? That's just crazy. Yes, ESPN has had issues with not crediting others when they clearly break news first, but tweeting doesn't mean you broke news.
When ESPN legitimately gets info from another source, like The Dan Patrick Show, they always credit the DP Show despite not liking DP. I see this as Olney not knowing.
As far as tweeting goes, tweeting does not mean you are reporting news. Let me ask did Jack Curry tweet it to ESPN? Did Jack Curry tweet it to Fox Sports? How about Sports Illustrated? In this case he tweeted it first, but that does not mean he first reported the news. Unless you let a legit news source know and it goes up on their site before ESPN reports it, then you haven't reported it before ESPN.
most people dont really care who reports it, they just care about the news. Most of my friends have no idea who half the reporters are. the journalists need to get over themselves and just report the truth, who cares who said it first?
@JackCurryYES @Buster_ESPN don't stop this feud. In stead of building credibility you look like squabbling children to those on outside.
@JackCurryYES @Buster_ESPN I have a lot respect for both of you, but your both at risk of losing my (and others) respect if you (cont)
@JackCurryYES @Buster_ESPN Twitters a problem, no sports fans care, and maybe ESPN should have just said 'yankee sources' #pointlessdebate
@JackCurryYES @buster_espn @fratiestofstars did you guys make up?? You're both good guys. I'm honestly glad there's no animosity
I genuinely believe Olney when he says he didn't know Curry had tweeted about it. Most of the time people don't mention who else reported it first anyways... and Olney went back and said yea seems Curry had it first. Curry very classless IMO to not quit hammering the story. Not sure what ESPN itself did, wouldn't surprise me if they handled it wrong. But Olney seems to have been fine.

Twitter has killed the industry. How many times has a journalist tweeted something just to be "first" but ended up being wrong? Breaking a story on twitter is worthless. No one cares who had it first except the guy who had it first.
@awfulannouncing at this rate singers are going 2 have 2 start crediting Francis Scott Key before singing the national anthem at ball parks
@awfulannouncing @JackCurryYES The Mother Ship may have a pattern of behavior but @Buster_ESPN is a stand up guy in my book.
@awfulannouncing Why did this battle start? Looks like both worked for it. I doubt a Petitte contract is worth not crediting a source.
@awfulannouncing It's like if I took something to the patent office 6 minutes after someone brought the same thing in, and saying it's OK.
@awfulannouncing As a journalist, I sympathise with both parties. Both parties did their research and Curry was just a faster tweeter.
@hofstetj I'm not feuding. I never claimed credit; I gave him credit. Haven't written anything about JC. I'm just answering tweets.
@KarlSelvig Well said. Get it right, not first.
@Buster_ESPN Citing articles defending your position n copying Curry looks a bit like a feud. Bottom line, I appreciate your (cont)
