Chevy commercial almost cuts off Lions Hail Mary

Written by Matt Yoder on .

Today's Lions-Titans game was one of the wildest in recent memory with Tennessee winning 44-41 in overtime.  The game had pretty much every insanely dramatic play imaginable happen including a game-tying Hail Mary from the Lions.  Incredibly, some fans watching the last second drama almost missed the Hail Mary.  I'll let Eric in Chicago explain...

"As a Lions fan living in Chicago, I have to rely on NFL [Sunday] Ticket to watch my team. I was disappointed in their play during the game, and had changed the channel to a closer game. But after I saw the first TD come up on Stattracker, I switched back and got to watch the onsides kick and the hail mary. As expected, I flipped my shit during that last play, partly because of its awesomeness, and partly because the game was interrupted by a commercial, right after Titus Young caught the pass and dove in to the end zone."

How's that for incredible timing?  I'm not sure if this happened all across Sunday Ticket or was just an isolated incident, but the commercial comes right as Titus Young catches the ball and crosses the goalline.  Sure a Hail Mary is exciting, but so is Chevy Truck Month!

UPDATE: Evidently some Sunday Ticket viewers weren't as lucky...

UPDATE II: Via PFT, DirecTV is taking the blame for the commercial interruption and apologized to Mike Florio for causing some fans to miss the Hail Mary play.

“I don’t have all the details, but it was our error. We sincerely apologize to you and all the viewers who missed the TD.”

So if you paid the additional fees for these services to be able to catch moments EXACTLY like this, and then they fail to deliver, I would assume that refunds and account credits are in order.

Not that I wouldn't be on the phone immediately threatening to cancel my account and find a new provider the second this happened.

Eric in chicago: if you were a real fan you wouldn't have given up on your team and switched channels.

@mexoplex I switched with under 2 minutes left and down 14, and my friends wanted to watch one of the 3-4 other close games.

@etsweeney  @mexoplex Don't let him blame his friends for this...I was there, that's not how it went down

@BrandonLang  @etsweeney  @mexoplex first mistake is a Lions fan, so he's already on something, secondly if there was a Jimmy Johns that would travel more than 6 blocks we wouldn't have been in this position. Thirdly, had that been a Samsung commercial his 'friends' wouldn't have minded.

@jcorelis almost as crazy as going for it on 4th down when all you need is a field goal.

@awfulannouncing there HAS to be a way to blame this on the replacement refs.

@awfulannouncing Didn't happen on the local Nashville feed but we did have Ron Pitts mis-calling Rob Bironas' first FG miss as good.
