Tim Tebow and the New York Jets provided a massive letdown to the New York and national media with their blowout win over Buffalo on Sunday.  In fact, Sunday's 48-28 victory was pretty much the doomsday scenario for sensationalistic, over-the-top, Tebow-centric media coverage.  Mark Sanchez played well throwing for 3 TDs and Tim Tebow was used sparingly.

So what did the New York Daily News do when there was no controversy, no circus act, no juiciness to report?  They created it for their own use.

In a Thursday column, Gary Myers of the NYDN produced a tabloidesque column with this headline.

Sweet Tebow!!  Tim Tebow is threatening to leave the Jets???  After only one week???  What a bad teammate!!!  I knew he wasn't all he was cracked up to be!!!  I knew he'd never make it in New York!!  What a fraud!!

But wait… while the headline makes it seems like Tebow or his handlers is creating drama and angling to get out of New York, the truth is that the entire basis for this story, the exhausting national media debate cycle that will take hold of this headline like a lion snapping up an injured wildebeest sure to follow, is one anonymous league source SPECULATING on what Tebow MAY do.  Myers doesn't even lead with this groundbreaking revelation, he saves it for the very end of his column.  I've spotlighted certain words in bold…

I think he will be a good soldier,” one NFL source said Wednesday. “At the end of the year, I think he will express those concerns to the Jets. He will want to move on. The one thing about Tebow is he is the quintessential team player. He would never do anything that is going to undermine the team. But he’s football-aholic. It’s in his blood.”

If Tebow remains in his limited role all season, then the source anticipates the QB will sit down with Jets decision-makers and ask them to trade him. His contract runs through the 2014 season, and Tebow is not ready to concede defeat on being a starting quarterback again.

“Absolutely he will talk to the Jets or we will have misevaluated his competitive nature,” the source said. “There comes a point, where they get it and realize this is who I am and just accept that role. Tebow is not there yet.”

An entire column based on a hypothetical trade demand put forward by a mysetrious, anonymous league source that will now go on to dominate the susceptible news cycle and sports talk radio today.  I've seen more credible trade information from WFAN callers!

The New York Daily News isn't the only one with anonymous league sources though.  I happen to have a league source that says Tim Tebow will leave the New York Jets to singlehandedly end global terrorism, ya know, if he remains in his limited role all season.
