Real Tweets from Real NFL Players - Replacement Refs Riot!

Written by Matt Yoder on .

Monday Night Football was the scene of NFL armageddon as the Green Bay Packers had victory literally stolen from their grasp by the Seattle Seahawks and the NFL's replacement referees.  As seen by the picture above from Tim Burke, Green Bay defender M.D. Jennings intercepted Russell Wilson's game ending Hail Mary attempt as Seattle receiver Golden Tate tried to get a piece of the football.  Inexplicably, as Jennings possesses the football and Tate tries to place a hand on it, one referee ruled dual possession and a touchdown for Seattle.  Another ref ruled an interception.  Somehow, a touchdown was called on the field, reviewed, and confirmed!

The replacement refs have been a nightmare for three weeks, but this is the NFL's doomsday scenario.  MNF broadcasters Mike Tirico and Jon Gruden brutalized the league and its officials with a dose of serious reality that should make anyone associated with the NFL shameful at what happened tonight.  The only time I can remember the game announcers reacting in such a way was when Mike Breen and Bill Walton were describing the events of Malice at the Palace.  Seriously.  Everyone at ESPN should be applauded for taking their most expensive television partner to the woodshed for the atrocity of sport witnessed in Seattle tonight.  This game will forever stand as one of the lowest points in the 85+ year history of the NFL.  How's that look on your resume, Rog?

Players from all around the league spoke up on Twitter about the insanity of it all.  These guys are putting their lives and their long-term health at risk each and every week for the game of football - a game that has been disgraced by the league office in Manhattan.  The integrity of Roger Goodell's NFL flew out the window on the Packers' 6,000 mile flight back to Green Bay.  If the Green Bay Packers refuse to show up for their game against New Orleans next week, they would have my full support.  Thank God for Twitter so NFL players can speak freely about this nonsense - fines, suspensions, and banishments be damned.  All of this needs to be said.  As always, these are Real Tweets from Real People...

I'm a Vikings fan and feel the Cheeseheads did get robbed big time.  Something needs to be done soon before the fans quit supporting the NFL.  On the other hand, who was doing the play calling and coaching for the Packers?  27/30 pass plays and 8 sacks ...  packers did play like crap

@dksmith0527No argument DK. They played like shit first half. They did get it together much better in the second half, and McCarthy took the blame for not changing the playbook soo

ner. Rodgers acknowledged that they should have had the game in the bag before the end, and I bet Driver had nightmares. Congratulations on the Vikes whupping some west coast ass. I like it when the black and blue division is all contending.

I disagree you all. I think the TD call was right. That is too close to overturn.

@FreeAgentSignee After the Seahawks lost in the 2006 Super Bowl to the Pittsburgh Steelers, because of 1 of the refs bad calls, which he admitted  a year or 2 later, it was nice to see a bad call not go against them for once!

The networks should either withold their payments to the NFL or stop carrying games until they are able to put a quality product on the field. The players work their asses off only to have their efforts diminished by inept officiating. Green Bay won that game and everybody knows it.

l @Andy Tolsma you are being nicer than I, and good on ya' for that... but these jack-wagons got it coming.. Roger is a joke at this point, and he puts jokes of refs. on the field to compensate for his tightwadedness. (go with it, it's a new word to describe ROGER). If he has any, and I mean any integrity he will overturn last nights result and offer the Packers an apology which is well deserved. But he won't cause he's a jack-wagon too.

Thought Sunday Nights game was a big enough joke, but Monday night topped that~!  How can the Sea Hawks even consider themselves to have won...NFL is nothing but a joke now & I don't know how the players even look forward to playing with a bunch of Ref's that they apparently brought out from under a ROCK!  I'm DONE..sticking w/College games, at least they can hold their head up after a game!  Players & Ref's!

NFL BIG SHOTS....GET ALL YOUR MONEY & YOUR $%$% TOGETHER!  It is killing the players & the fans, that is if you have any fans left!

@Bama33 How could the Packers have considered themselves to won? I disagree with the final call, just like any other reasonable sports fan, but to say that GB deserved the win is just delusional. The PI call that kept their TD drive alive would have been just as controversial as the final call had it happened later in the game. It's bull to say that this was the ONLY call that influenced the game.  But I'm with you, no more NFL for me until they get this under control

@blametherefs  @Bama33 It is very simple why they won... they had the lead going into the last attempt, they intercepted the ball in the end-zone on the hail-mary and if we want to get technical the ref who signaled the TD ignored, not "didn't see", but IGNORED the push-off in the end-zone for the final attempt and if he would have called that the penalty would have been (by rule) a 15 second run off and loss of down which would have ended the game on turnover (it was 4th down). That is why they won the game... and that's dismissing the crappy defensive pass interference call that kept the ball in Seachicken possession.

@normmiller  @blametherefs The only thing simple is everyone agrees that right now the NFL games are nothing but a "cluster.....".  The game did not end and the majority of the world watching agrees with a "W" behind who should have won regardless of how many plays didn't get called and we all lost track.  Fans know the rules better than the "Replacement" Ref's know the rules and we will not see NFL as we "know it" until this MESS IS FIXED and I don't blame the players for not wanting to play...I'm watching college and sorry NFL players,  but I'll watch when the so called  "big boys" are man enough to get their heads out of their A Holes!~ until then College is more grounded and they can call a game.

@normmiller  @Bama33 You can't focus on just that drive, though.  The entire second half was full of calls (or no calls) that directly affected the outcome of the game. Missed holds, phantom PIs, incorrect roughing the passer calls, etc all lead to longer drives and extra points on the board. For both teams. On 3rd and 2 on the Hawks 47 the Seattle defender was called for OPI. That should have turned the ball back over to Seattle via punt (I doubt that they would have tried for the 64 yard FG, or for the 4th and 2 with 11 min left in the game). While the Hawks weren't producing on O yet, there isn't anything saying that drive wouldn't have been different. I don't feel like either team would have won this game fairly considering the poorly officiated second half.

@blametherefs I agree, I am fed up w/it all.  GB played lousy in the 1st half, bad calls, too many to count really, Sunday night & Monday.  No winners in any of this.  Sad....all the money and nothing but crap.  College players have the best of the best right now...That is were my TV is set until this is done.  The rest is a waste of time and frustration right now!

@blametherefs  @Bama33 You know bama33 if the real refs don't come to an agreement soon, they will use replacement refs for the NFL Playoffs this year too, you do know that right???

@blametherefs Funny you should said that, I was thinking the very same thing myself last night as I was shaking my head over and over...LOL...however, don't you know that we, the FANS out here are the ones with "no sense"!  If they had any, they would have never started the season without settling FIRST, idiots, hope they get a VERY LONG contract!!!...LOL!!!

@Bama33 Can we just count this as extended preseason and start the official records when the real refs come back?

"Somehow, a touchdown was called on the field, reviewed, and confirmed!"

To be fair, he actually said the call stands, not confirmed, meaning they didn't have evidence to overturn the bad call on the field.

@towman100 What? Any team would take the win given to them. How did the Hawks cheat when the officials are the ones that blew the call? Also, did you call the Packers cheaters when they were gifted a PI call that lead to their TD (instead if it being 4th and 2 and a punt on the way)? Both teams, and all NFL fans, were "robbed" by officiating.

To the guys who bust their balls giving it all they got... thank you! to the refs who give it to them... YOU GUYS SUCK. forget the fact (and it is) that i'm a GB fan, how in gods good name do you blow a call like that?? Congrat's Roger, you are just as much to blame in this as anyone else, there's no way you could see this and not be ashamed. Roger, you are a tightwad punk and the worst thing to happen to sports in years... fire yourself and give the ref's the $.

@awfulannouncing looks like the NFL just made a lot more money with all the fines they are about to hand out for criticising the officials.
