Your MLB announcing schedule for 9/18 - 9/23

Written by Ryan Yoder on .

Isn't this one of the most wonderful times of the year?  Football is back, hockey is locked out, basketball is right around the corner, and baseball is in to the home stretch.  This week's national baseball coverage finally seems to be coming around to focusing on the teams that are in contention (Reds, Nationals, A's, etc.) than teams who are just in disarray (hello Red Sox!)  However, one glaring omission is the lack of games for the Orioles, who remain neck-and-neck with the Evil Empire in the AL East. The weekend series between the Dodgers and Reds highlights ESPN and FOX's weekend coverage.  Updates will be added in the comments section.

I'm also curious to see who MLB Network will put in the booth during the postseason. MLB Network's first game is on a Sunday, so Costas will be busy with NBC, and Smoltz will be busy with TBS (unless MLB Network is carrying the game that Smoltz is already at), so it seems that the most likely pairing that day would be Vasgersian/Kaat.

As for MLB Network's Wednesday game, almost anyone could do that one, and I kind expect them to put Costas on that game because he's their "A" team play-by-play guy.

IMO, Brian Kenny and Billy Ripken made for a pretty interesting and lively team. I much preferred it to Bob Costas...who seems to always want to talk about the "storylines" rather than get involved in the game taking place on the field. I think all of those years out of the booth working as a studio host/reporter for NBC have caused him to become more of a journalist than a play-by-play guy.

Does anbody know why MLB Network used the away team Texas Rangers and not home team Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim broadcasters for tonight's game???

 @CUbsfan It could also have something to do with there being 2 extra broadcast teams there on Wednesday night. You have both teams Spanish radio broadcast teams, both teams English radio broadcast teams, both teams regular broadcast groups, the LA Angels on Compass Media Networks broadcast team, and ESPN all covering the game on Wednesday night, so maybe they weren't able to use the regular means of sat set-up or something.

 @CUbsfan It's rare, but while MLB Network is able to broadcast from any game, sometimes they aren't able to get a contract to use a specific teams feed in advance. I can only assume that they were unable to get the broadcast team rights from Fox Sports West lined up for last night's game. However they have the right to use the Fox Sports Southwest feed whenever they need to, so they used the Fox Sports Southwest feed last night. Again, it is only a hypothesis. I have no evidence supporting or denying this, but I know that they have had to use road team feeds before because they were unable to obtain home team broadcast rights.

 @DanielOrmsby

 Daniel thanks for telling me that and that might also explain why MLB Network is showing the KCAL9 Los Angeles Dodgers Road Team over the Home Team Washngton Nationals CSN MId Atlantic broadcast this afternon too!!!
