Much to my horror, I was flipping through channels last night and saw this horrifying creature on ESPN's Baseball Tonight. It's a giant, happy glove who looks to be the villain of a Stephen King novel... or a misplaced Yo Gabba Gabba character. The mascot is WebGem Jimmy and he has featured in a commercial for Baseball Tonight.
I can't say I'm an avid viewer of Baseball Tonight, so I'm not sure how new of a character WebGem Jimmy is, but seeing him has ensured I won't be an avid viewer anytime soon. Did we not learn anything from the disaster that was Scooter? Ridiculously cheerful mascots are no way to bring the game to new fans.
That's nothing. Have you seen the mascot for the Fox College Football Studio Show? A tall, beaked thing that continually squawks nonsense. They call it "Erin Andrews".
@PKJM887 what the hell is that thing?
@awfulannouncing Did you notice the 3 inch stilettos "Jimmy" was wearing? Karl Ravech even commented on them at one point last night.
@awfulannouncing It also wears heels, which is all sorts of unusual.
@awfulannouncing To be fair, my small child is afraid of all mascots.
@awfulannouncing Still not as creepy as the Burger King
@awfulannouncing And 24 year old males.....
I think it's important to note that Baseball Tonight has always been pretty offbeat, so I think they're doing this to be absurd on purpose. I mean, just look at their ads throughout the years.
@palsdasportsguy the web gem award!
