Yes, we've certainly been guilty of indulging in plenty of A-Rod stories, but can you blame us? After all, we're still waiting with baited breath for the Johnny Football Zapruder film to finally show up (back and to the left... back and to the left...) with nothing else better to do. In all the angles, takes, schadenfreude, and hoopla with A-Rod's return the one element I was most interested in was finding the call from Yankee radio and Ma and Pa Pinstripe - John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman.
It's not quite the return of Roger Clemens, but it is funny to hear Suzyn Waldman talk about how many in the crowd were STANDING AND CHEERING A-Rod as he came to the plate like he's making some kind of heroic comeback. The ultimate Yankee troll job. It's also funny to hear Ma and Pa Pinstripe disagree about the nature of A-Rod's single because one of them is contractually obligated to have no idea what's happening at any point in time.
Hilarious. Sums up so much of what is funny about baseball and its tradition-bound fans. Two flacks hyping a tainted product.
I tune these blowhards in on occasion just to re-affirm that they really are the worst "professional" broadcasting team ever.
Do they even acknowledge that the other one is even in the booth--at least where Sterling is concerned. She is yammering on about a lot of cameras and Yankees fans and Sterling talks right over her. Sterling/Waldman in one booth and Hawk in the other. Awful Announcing at its finest!
