More changes could be on their way to ESPN Radio. Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports Highly Questionable host Dan Le Batard will be taking his local Miami show to a national platform on ESPN Radio and another Miami personality will be joining him:
"ESPN Radio likely will pick up Dan Le Batard’s 790 The Ticket radio show in the next few months, providing a national forum for the market’s highest-rated sports talk show. Le Batard and Jon Weiner do not plan to change anything from the way they do the show now, and The Ticket will continue to air it.
If a deal is finalized as expected, ESPN Radio would carry Le Batard's program from 4 to 7 p.m., followed by a 7-10 p.m. show with Jorge Sedano (who leaves WQAM at the end of the month) and former Broncos lineman Mark Schlereth.
From 3 to 4 p.m., LeBatard and Weiner would do a show only for their 790 audience."
Mark Schlereth has been without a radio partner since Mike Hill left ESPN for Fox Sports 1. Currently, the afternoon lineup after the Scott Van Pelt Show is filled by Jonathan Coachman's Coach & Co. and the generic ESPN Radio Tonight. I've never quite bought into Mark Schlereth as a general sports radio personality, but it looks like ESPN is willing to give it another crack. One has to wonder what this does with Coachman, who appears to be the odd man out in the ESPN Radio weekday lineup. He could possibly move back to co-hosting a weekend show with Freddie Coleman.
The additions of Le Batard and Sedano woud give a distinct South Beach tilt to ESPN Radio's afternoon and evening lineup. WIth as much as ESPN talks about the Miami Heat, I just wonder what took them so long.
I'm thinking the Miami personality is Bomani Jones. It's about time the United States embraces Stugotz, Mike Ryan, and Roy.
Dan is great........... I agree with someone that ESPN is dead overnight. Since Jason Smith left, just re played day garbage stuff
Why? Le Batard is French for whiny, unfunny, blowhard. Plus, he's got a crappy voice. Radio execs are CLUELESS!
This is a show in the midst of its golden Age. What a great move to take it national. This is brilliant! Dan is one of the great voices of American sports and the show he does is smart, funny and insightful. Love this move!
