Out of all the new shows Fox Sports 1 will launch in the coming days, Regis Philbin's Crowd Goes Wild is the one with the greatest unpredictability (especially now that we know Regis may not be in for the long haul). When you try to manufacture your own irreverence with a cast as random as purple monkey dishwashers, there's a great "dumpster fire" potential. However, there is also a very small window for CGW that can hit the mark, find the right balance, and make it a success.
This clip gives me some hope it could actually be the latter.
Watch as Katie Nolan (formerly of Guyism) and tennis player turned comedian Michael Kosta debate... themselves in a segment called "Pardon the Contradiction." There's a nice punch to the kidneys right at PTI in the same timeslot!
This clear mockery of ESPN's "Embrace Debate" format is actually quite funny. Fox should be releasing more videos like this to promote FS1's launch. This is way more fun than those tens of thousands of promos telling me how much fun I'm going to have watching the new network.
First off, FS1 probably got the idea of having Regis host a show based on his appearance on "First Take." Meanwhile, he seemed asleep at the switch with ringing that bell in getting Katie and Whathisname to switch opinions.
I guess my sense of humor is lacking, because I found the bit unfunny.
I did find Katie somewhat engaging which s probably why I remembered her name.
Incidentally, I'm watching the first hour of Fox Sports 1 ("FOX College Football Kickoff") and Erin Andrews just used the ESPN-like phrase "hot topic" three times in the last two minutes.
Seems like more of the same.
Please don't tell me that is a real show. Okay, I get it Sportsnation is somehow a real show. And they have one of the former hosts working at Fox Sports now. No irony here. At least there's no potential for politics. How many Olbermann segments on Sportscenter can you stand the next morning until your head explodes?
He just sucked ten years of life from John Oliver's head! He's good through 2023! DAMN I can't wait for this channel to start... ESPNFLBA is driving me insane... "we've got real live sports and shit going on as we speak, but first let's talk about the Jets' quarterback controversy and Tom Brady's strained ass muscle... maybe, if you're lucky, we'll talk some baseball but only the steroid crap and replay controversies because we have no actual clue how to discuss the sport of baseball... if you're one of those 'baseball nerds', piss off... they gave you guys a whole other channel! what's that? the NFL has its own channel too? well, yeah, but they mostly show crap about actual games on that channel... where's the fun in that?"
but I digress...
