In the least surprising news of the day, ESPN has made the decision to fire Hugh Douglas. The former Eagles DE and current Numbers Never Lie co-host committed the equivalent of career suicide by drunkenly threatening co-worker Michael Smith, using racial slurs at a convention a couple weeks ago.
Douglas was kept off the air initially by ESPN and now the other shoe has dropped according to SI's Richard Deitsch.
Hugh Douglas no longer works for ESPN. Details to come on http://t.co/37kDSmc79I shortly.— Richard Deitsch (@richarddeitsch) August 13, 2013
For his part, Douglas sent the following tweet about the situation:
I am very disappointed to be leaving ESPN and will have more to say about this situation and my future at the appropriate time— Hugh Douglas (@Bighugh53) August 13, 2013
To be honest, Hugh Douglas' presence on ESPN airwaves will not be greatly missed by the masses. Even though he got a co-hosting opportunity, he was just another ex-jock on a network populated by ex-jocks. Hopefully he and others learn a lesson from this - don't get drunk in public. It can lead to bad things.
No offense to Hugh the person, I'm sure he's a good guy. He's an absolutely horrible analyst. To speak for a living, you have to be good at speaking. Emmit Smith can attest to this. In his defense, all these shows are absolutely stupid and just repeat the same data over and over and over again. To the idiot below: LeBetard is still employed because he's smart and interesting. He comes up with fresh perspectives instead of mindless, grade school intellect like Hugh Douglas, RIP.
Way to go Hugh! Now if only Bayless or Screaming A. Smith could say something nasty and be kicked off the air!
