Michael Vick will be the starting quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles in two weeks in Washington, but the embattled Vick will be playing a bit differently this year, thanks to what he believes is an unfair label tacked upon him by the media.
Whether that leads to his staying healthy remains to be seen. It's critical for Vick, who has played 16 games just once in his career. He's missed eight starts during the last two seasons because of injury.
"Some were random, some were positions I put myself in," Vick said. "And just sometimes being in the wrong place in the wrong time."
The injuries have ranged from a concussion to rib injuries to a hand injury. But Vick has often disputed the "injury-prone" label, and he does not think he's as injured as his reputation suggests.
"You guys act like I get hurt once a week," Vick said to reporters. "You all did that to me. Made me change the way I played the game."
Well, here's the thing Michael: you *are* injury prone. You have played all 16 games in a season just once in your career. You've missed at least three games in every year since returning to the NFL from your prison sentence.
It would be one thing if Vick had changed his style for the sensible reason (that he's aging and nowhere near the player he was in his heyday with the Falcons), but blaming the media for the changes thanks to a fair label? Nah, that's not cool. Vick's going to be running like he did with the Falcons this season, injuries be damned,
You might want to get a handle on those turnovers, though. If you give the ball away twice a game like you did last year, the Philly media and fans are going to eat you up like you wouldn't believe, and the injury-prone label will be the least of your concerns.
The fact that Vick is changing his playing style because of the media depicts the power and influence that the media has on the sports world today. Rather that focusing on his own tactics and playing in a way that is best suited for him, Vick has chosen to adapt to a new playing style that has been enforced upon him by the outside world. This goes to show that the media will ultimately get their way. Maybe this is a good thing for Vick. If he can learn to become more of a pocket passer, and run around less, hopefully he can someday play 16 games in a season. We'll have to wait and see...
You don't get a nickname like injury prone for no reason. Michael Vick has had plenty of injuries therefore I think it is fair to refer to him as injury prone. However, a label shouldn't change the way an athlete competes. If his particular style of play causes him to recieve more injuries than other types of play then so be it. His coaching staff is clearly aware of the risk, yet he is still starting so they must see some brilliance to his madness. An athlete can be labelled whatever and still play at a high level without letting it change how they perform.
The media did hurt him just like the media hurt tiger woods the greatest athlete for a decade. so fuck the media their a bunch of makeup wearing pansy who don't understand shit,Mike Vick is gonna rise again he paid his dues. so he gave some money to the wrong people who were his friends. who hasn't given money to there friends even if there shady. I back Vick up all the way u fantasy players watch
"I guess the media is NOT desiress to see a black QB succeed in Phladelphia and the NFL. I was wrong." -Rush Limbaugh
Mike vick has actually played in the preseason showing his boss like skills are back like a few years ago and beat out Foles for starting QB. RG3 hasn't played and the redskins wont play him, has showed signs of being different from his knee surgery which is a fancy way of saying turn ACL which is the worst possible injury to a professional football player. Everyone says Vick is prone to injury, he isnt fresh off recovery from a serious injury. Week one Mike Vick he'll be a baller
Mike Vick has struggled quite a bit on and off the field but I believe this year he will improve and find his self as a player , although one of the best ATHLETES to play quarterback he also had the 53rd best passing rating of All-Time in the NFL , rather his game will change this upcoming season due to media criticism is unknown but there is a difference between adjusting to Media and adjusting to age , in the article Vick was criticized for averaging 2 turnovers per game last season , but is he truly the blame seeing that his offensive line was ranked 28th out of 32 teams in the league? also allowing a league high 118 QB hits? No. Perhaps the drafting of #4 pick Lane Johnson of Oklahoma will help. With Chip Kelly taking over the Eagles will more than likely adopt his fast paced offensive attack in which he essentially perfected at the university of Oregon. This new offense will be better for Vick and as a result he should give us the old flashy Quarterback we once seen in Atlanta despite being 33 years of age.
