This is only something nerds like me could truly love and appreciate. Fox has taken to labeling their 4 PM ET NFL broadcasts "America's Game of the Week." It's a bit silly for several reasons…
1) Fox is showing multiple games at 4 PM ET. So while Cowboys-Packers was going to most of the country, a lot of viewers were watching Saints-Rams or Titans-Cardinals instead. Are all of them "America's Game of the Week" or just the main one? Should it be "America's Games of the Week"?
2) When Fox has the national late afternoon game, CBS still has regional broadcasts so it's not like Fox has the NFL all to themselves in that timeslot.
3) Fox and CBS split the late national window throughout the season, so either "America's Game of the Week" alternates between networks or the CBS marketing department just hasn't hatched a catchy brand name for it yet. Like, "North America's Game of the Week."
4) The only true national telecasts are on NFL Network, NBC, and ESPN.
So perhaps this was a bit of a subtle dig from NBC towards their friends at Fox, labeling next week's Bears-Eagles game as "America's Game of the Week." The NFL flexed the game away from Fox and put it on NBC for a nationwide audience.
The question is whether America is really big enough for TWO Games of the Week.
