Whether he bolts for Texas or not, current Alabama football head coach Nick Saban will appear on ESPN as an analyst on Jan. 6 for the BCS National Championship Game between Auburn and Florida State.

Sports Illustrated's media reporter Richard Deitsch broke the news on Twitter:

Since at least one competitor in the national title game is from the SEC, Saban will have coached against them and can give an inside take on that team: in this case, Auburn. Saban has been an analyst on ESPN prior to bowl games before – if Alabama isn't in the title game – and is actually a very capable TV analyst. He lacks the upbeat personality of other coaches, but makes up for it with intense, stern charisma. He knows he deserves to be on that field in khakis and tennis shoes but instead he's talking at Kirk Herbstreit in some plaid jacket.

But Saban puts up with the charade because being on national television before the most important game of the season is also a prime opportunity for exposure, which aids in recruiting players. Also, if Saban ends up at Texas, this BCS appearance could be an introduction to the ESPN family of networks due to his obligatory appearances on the Longhorn Network as the coach of Texas.

You heard it here first: Awful Announcing says that Nick Saban is auditioning for the Longhorn Network, potentially. Actually, probably not. Who knows? We have sources.
