Donovan McNabb congratulates Danica Patrick for prematurely winning Daytona 500
On Sunday, Danica Patrick became the first woman to ever win the pole position at the Daytona 500. You can fit what I know about NASCAR into a thimble, so after a little research, I discovered what this actually meant. Patrick will start first alongside Jeff Gordon for the season-opening race on the front row.
As the first woman to win a Daytona 500 pole, Patrick accomplishing this feat did not go unnoticed, and one Donovan J. McNabb expressed his congratulations via Twitter:
While we can't fault McNabb for his intentions, he may want to employ a fact-checker before he Tweets things that are completely incorrect (and for that new NBC radio gig). Winning the pole is not the same as a "race." USA Today noted that when McNabb's followers pointed out the error, instead of simply correcting himself, he got very defensive:
"To all the haters, in order to qualify you need to win and beat someone. Hmmm. Ponder on that one. Smh"
People pointing out the error should not be considered "haters." They just wanted him to get his facts straight, which has proven occasionally difficult for the former Eagles QB in the past. We can only hope Danica Patrick ties for the win in this year's actual Daytona 500 so McNabb can properly offer his congratulations.
Considering that Auto racing is the only major sport where women compete on the same level as men, this should be a huge story!l
If you looked at the google news feed after Danica Patrick won the pole, this is what half of the articles claimed. How familiar with car racing do you expect anyone with an IQ over 35 to have? Or do you expect every pro-football player to spend SUNDAY (you know, the day they play pro-football) watching cards drive around in circles?
@ThomasClark2 Well, most of the NASCAR season does not overlap with the NFL so I can see some of the players being fans. If they're watching cards drive around in circles, they may have poker on the brain.
