Dan Sileo suspended for inappropriate tweets to Erin Andrews
Last week, Dan Sileo went on an unprovoked and extremely offensive Twitter rant against Erin Andrews.
On Sunday, the Miami Herald reported that Sileo's employer WQAM has suspended Sileo for two days. While the station declined to comment on the suspension, it should come as no surprise to anyone, least of all Sileo.
I'm sure he considers this tweet a heartfelt apology:
So the peephole comment was over the top, but not asking her to cook him dinner or bake him a cake? Every comment he made was incredibly sexist and over the top.
He then goes on to call his suspension "classic."
Sileo must consider himself some sort of martyr for all sexist neanderthals. Sure freedom of speech is great, but not when it is blatent sexual harassment. I'm actually shocked Sileo got off so light, a sentiment shared by ESPN's Samantha Steele, who called the two day suspension a "scary precedent." That brings me to this next tweet:
For what it's worth, Andrews has remained silent on the whole thing, and rightfully so. There's no need to pander to Sileo and she does have a career to focus on.
If Sileo didn't change after calling African American NFL players "monkeys", it's hopeless to expect him to change for sexist comments to Erin Andrews. This is a process that will surely repeat itself until he's finally run out of second and third and fourth chances. Maybe the mistake is expecting people like Dan Sileo to change when it's sports radio itself that needs to change.
I heard the "monkey" comments when he said them on WDAE. He wasn't being racist. For years Sileo went out of his way to defend the black athlete. It was just a poor choice of words. That said, the Erin Andrews tweets are inexcusable and immature.
You should look into a similar radio hack in philly who made just comments about Andrews on saturday... He said it on the air ...Howard eskin on wip is just as bad as this guy and people in Philly will tell you that.
So sick of this guy...Guess QAM felt since he was a former Hurricane, he would bring in ratings.
The guy looks like one of those bros at the bar that always tries to take your date. He's a douche.
