ESPN's coverage of Te'o hoax

Written by Reva Friedel on .

ESPN has wasted no time putting this whole Te'o fiasco at the top of their Breaking News queue. On a day filled with lots of coaching news, Te'o trumps all with this elaborate scheme he is now claiming to be the victim of. Although SportsCenter led with Chip Kelly going to the Eagles, Te'o got the breaking news treatment.

There are probably millions of facts we have yet to find out and some we probably never will. But every media outlet in the nation, the same ones that were lauding Te'o for his emotional bravery, are now falling all over themselves to get the real story.

Here is ESPN's somber announcement of the coverage:

It will be interesting to see how this plays out - for now, we certainly will not have to worry about lack of speculation or coverage. From anyone.

Best ESPN "Breaking News" headline I've ever seen. I think the only thing that could top this would be "Tebow marries Bayless"

gotta love how ESPN was hamming up the whole "girlfriend/grandma" death story about T'eo, and his bravery, and now is the first to throw the kid under the bus.

Poor Manti Te'o. The truth surfaces and he claims to have been "catfished". Oprah has a seat waiting for ya!

So there's absolutely no way that Teo wasn't in on it, is there?

Also ESPN had the story 10 days ago, so was it really breaking news for them?

@Jcool01 They had it before the National Championship game and sat on it.  What if Notre Dame had won? ESPN would have done nothing but praise Te'o knowing all about this story.  ESPN propped up and hyped Te'o and his story all year long, and when it came out it wasn't true, they didn't do anything bc it would have effected their bottom line.
