NBC gets Stanley Cup Playoffs results wrong during promo

Written by Joe Lucia on .

The NHL is back, and NBC is putting the full court press with advertisements for this weekend's slate of games on NBC and NBC Sports Network, including the above promo for the Penguins-Flyers game that will air regionally on NBC.

In the voiceover, there is a mention made of Claude Giroux and the Flyers having their sights set on revenge for last season's playoff loss to Pitt. That's all fine and dandy... except for the fact that the Flyers beat the Penguins in six games in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals last spring. Maybe NBC was mistaking "last year" for 2009, when the Penguins eliminated the Flyers in the first round of the playoffs. Of course, that was four years ago, a season in which the aforementioned Giroux played just 42 games for the Flyers.

Hockey might be back and getting some great TV windows on NBC, but it looks like everyone involved may be a little rusty.

Dave Srader is doing PBP and Brian Engblom is "Inside the Glass'  for NBC Sports Network's coverage of the Chicago Blackhawks at Phoenix Coyotes on Sunday January 20th and also for NBC Sports Network's coverage of the Philadelphia Flyers at New Jersey Devils for Tuesday January 23rd too!!!

Kenny Albert did PBP and does anybody know who the analyst was for NBC Sports Network's coverage of the Detroit Redwings at Columbus Bluejackets was on Monday night???

NBC still gets it wrong. Pens/Flyers in the East, Hawks/Kings in the West. No way to see the West game in the East, and vice-versa. Even on DirecTV. Shame.

@DickYoungsGhost You'd at least think they'd simulcast the other game on NBCSN or NHLN...nope. NBCSN is airing a Columbia-Cornell hoops game, and NHLN is airing a CHL Top Prospects game that apparently is a rebroadcast.

JoeLucia they couldn't simulcast the game on NBCSN because they had already planned on having a College Basketball Tripleheader on NBCSN, all the way back in October, while the NHL was still on strike and besides they already had a Fight Night scheduled for tonight too and the NHL didn't get it's act together untill a week or a week and a half ago, that is where the NHL shot it's self in the foot!!!

Mike Emrick and Pierre Mcguire was "Inside the glass" for NBC's coverage of the Pittsburgh Penguins at Philadelphia Flyers game this afternoon, before flying to Buffalo and calling the Philadelphia Flyers at Buffalo Sabres game tomorrow afternoon and Dave Strader, Eddie Olczyk and Brian Engblom was "Inside the Glass" for NBC's coverage of the Chicago Blackhawks at Los Angeles Kings game this afternoon too!!!
