Some people (okay most people) consider Hawk Harrelson to be one of MLB’s most notorious announcers because of his unabashed, unapologetic and 100% over the top blatant homerism for the Chicago White Sox.
Right now Hawk is REALLY, REALLY sad. The Chi Sox are not only in the AL Central basement right now, but have the fourth worst record in the MLB at 32-47. Only two teams, Miami (29) and Houston (30), have fewer wins. According to Baseball Prospectus, the team has a 0.1% chance of making the playoffs.
Chris Sale has been robbed of like, 25 wins because the offense can’t get its act together, and the other night, on June 28th, vs. the Indians, the score at the top of the 9th was 8-5 in favor of the Sox until Addison Reed blew the save and capped off his horrific performance by giving up a home run to Nick Swisher, making the score 9-8 Indians, which would stick. Here is Hawk’s call of that home run.
He just sounds so dejected. If he were 9, I would want to buy him an ice cream cone. With the way the Sox have been playing though, I have a feeling we have a lot of these sad, bitter calls ahead of us, and it is going to be a looooooooooooong season of Hawk Harrelson schadenfreude.
H/T @the_bonnfire for the clip and excellent headline
Reva what is amazng about the Cleveland Indians at Chicago Whitesox Doubleheader last Friday, was that the Cleveland Indians outscored the Chicago Whitesox by a score of 28-18 in the 2 games, because the Cleveland Indians also beat the Chicago Whitesox 19-10 in the 1st game and the 2 games took a MLB record 7:53 just to play the 18 innings in the 2 games too!!!
I wouldn't say he's considered one of MLB's notorious announcers. He's one of the worse announcers in all of sports & has a case for being the worst.
At least he brought himself to actually DO HIS JOB and talk instead of his pouty "I'm mad so I'll sit here in silence" crap he pulls so often. Every time this happens to him is like finding $5 in my pants pockets.
"Reed blew the save and capped off his horrific performance by giving up a home run to Nick Swisher, making the score 9-8 Mets"
Don't you mean 9-8 Indians?
@DFreshHookup yes, just fixed that, thanks!
