If there's one thing we will NEVER get tired of posting, it's videos where Hawk Harrelson is mad, disappointed, angry, or upset at a baseball-related event. Tuesday evening we join Hawk with the Chicago White Sox just one out away from defeating the New York Mets. Daniel Murphy pops one up to the mound and that should be the ballgame, except for Gordon Beckham who collides with Conor Gillaspie and allows the tieing run to score.
You gotta be bleepin' me.
The great aspect about this particular clip is Hawk's mutterings during the entire next at bat and furious reaction going to commercial after the final out of the inning. It's like he COMPLETELY FORGOT HE WAS ANNOUNCING A BASEBALL GAME!
Thankfully for Hawk's blood pressure, the Chi Sox came back to win 5-4 in the bottom of the 9th. In the meantime, we'll have to figure out whether Beckham's dive into his own teammate's legs actually gives him a boost in TWTW.
Hands down, the worst play-by-play man in all of baseball. How he roots so hard for his team is...embarrassing
You gotta be bleepin' me!!
I LOVE THE HAWK!!
I couldn't stand the guy for the first 10 years he was in Chicago (especially during his God awful stint as GM). After growing up with Harry and Jimmy, I expected more from the local announcers. But sometime during his pairing with Wimpy (Tom Paciorek) my disgust turned into amusement and then into admiration. Now I see Hawk as a local treasure that can be compared to any of the all-time greats who graced the airwaves in Chicago. Every local announcer should be equally as excited (and disgusted) about the team they are working for. If I wanted 31 flavors of vanilla, I would shop in a vanilla only store. Hawk's job isn't to just announce the game--anyone can do that. His job isn't even to be the most informative person in the booth---that is why Stone is there. Hawk's job is to get the fans excited about the team on the field and the game we are watching and no one is better at doing this than the Hawk. You can put it on the board, YES!!
Thanks to the MLBN I was able to watch this disasterpiece live. I immediatly hit record on the dvr and waited for Hawk to completly meltdown...which he damn near did. I kept waiting for either him or Stone to mention that Murphy had the balls to steal 2nd base after the infamous popup....not a word....unbelievable....unbelievable...you gotta be bleepin me...grumble....grumble.. Sox Win!
I'm old enough to remember Dizzy Dean's announcer days with Pee Wee Reese. He was famous for making calls like, 'And there's a ground ball up the shortstop's hole". Then he would sing 'The Wabash Cannonball'. He would never miss a chance to talk about his friend Mr. Greasy Dick, (the actual owner of Falstaff Breweries. Not correct spelling, but correct phonetically). Telling old timer stories and on and on. He was a poor analyst but terrifically entertaining. Harrelson is just an embarassment. His job is not to root. If he wants to do that he should put on the mascot's uniform and run around with an oversized hot dog
Im still waiting for Hawk to start swearing on air live which would be the greatest moment in tv history.
I couldn't believe another juvenile homer call by the worst play by play man, Hawk Harrellson but it was hilarious how he instead of talking about how badly they played the pop fly, he sat there silent and then babbled incoherently again just like usual. I don't what's worst, the product on the field or him in the booth.
Aldo Gandia, that's very well said, and exactly right! It turns out I will really miss him once he's no longer on the airwaves. I'd rather listen to his werido "homer" style of calling a game than whatever is sure to follow him. Also, it's fun when the opposing team gets a home run and it's Radio Silence for 90 seconds...
Good job by Stone to try and get back to baseball...of course he had a lot of practice for those situations in working alongside Harry Caray in his later years.
Hawks has transformed himself from the worst announcer in Chicago baseball history to the most entertaining thing about today's Chicago baseball
Hawk, why do this to yourself? The baseball in Chicago right now is atrocious, there is no reason to think that the Sox or the Cubs can win anything, why expect them to play well when they just suck? Life is too short man, enjoy it.
