The Red Sox destroyed the Rangers 17-5 last night in a game that devolved to the point where Rangers OF David Murphy took the mound and began striking out Red Sox. After the game mercifully concluded after 3 hours and 10 minutes, Sox analyst Dennis Eckersley got caught with a hot mic going to break asking "we gotta recap this sh*t?!"
Such is the nature of a lenghty baseball blowout that was decided after just the 2nd inning. Not even the team's winning analyst wants to stick around and relive the inanity. Eck was ready to call it a night.
Now, to be fair, was this video pulled from the actual NESN feed on Comcast, DirecTV, etc., or was it MLB.tv? I've found that when you're watching the actual channel, when the booth crew throws it to the studio, it goes as it should. On MLB.tv, though, for whatever reason they don't pick up those segments which lead to dead air and just the video feed from the field (you usually see this with in-game "around the league" type cut-ins).
FWIW, I was watching NESN on DirecTV last night, and when Don Orsillo threw it to Tom Caron in the studio, it did switch over. So I think this was a case of Eck's mic being off for the actual broadcast, but was still hot for MLB.tv.
