Last Saturday, the Bismarck Bobcats took on the Austin Bruins in a North American Hockey League game, and Bismarck prevailed 4-3 in overtime. Three of their goals came in the third period, and two came in the last three minutes of the game after a boarding penalty on Austin's Brandon Whalin gave Bismarck a five minute power play.
This video starts with the hit by Whalin into the boards, and the commentator goes nuts for the hit before Bobcats players jump onto Whalin. After starting his call with "OH NO, THEY'VE GOT TO SAVE WHALIN!!!" (which is up there with "boom goes the dynamite" and "pyrotechnics" in my mind), he then goes into a 35 second long tirade of screaming "IT WAS A CLEAN HIT!" over and over again, pausing only to breathe.
We've confirmed that the announcer making the call is Austin Bruins play by play man James Lilledahl, in his third year broadcasting for the Bruins. Lilledahl is also the director of media relations for Austin, and I'm sure his inbox is going to be blowing up now that this call is starting to spread like wildfire.
Don't excuse unprofessionalism under the guise of "passion."
You can be passionate for the game you're calling and not be a fanboy.
If he's got a three-year career, he should know better than to be a fanboy.
User837, regardless of how much experience he has, there's no ignorance about coming to a conclusion like that. I'm coming from an objective place when I say that he lacks professionalism when something like this occurs. There are viewers of Austin games that are calling for his firing in case you weren't aware.
As an Austin Bruins fan who listens to James every weekend I know he is one of the most passionate hockey broadcasters who is great to listen to. He has a lot of knowledge and love for the sport. This is a 44 second clip of his 3 year career. I suggest you do you're research on someone before reaching such ignorant conclusions. Putting this much judgment on someone after watching a 44 second clip is plain crazy. What, you all expect people to be perfect, especially just a few years into a career??????? Cause I'm sure you are all perfect people.. Nice life.
@awfulannouncing I have a headache now
@nsmitham980 dead link :-(
@awfulannouncing Is it weird that I may make that audio clip my alarm every morning? That'd sure wake me up.
@awfulannouncing WHY SAY IT SO MANY TIMES?? Hahaha
@awfulannouncing Was it a clean hit?
I'll go on a limb and say that if you're calling junior hockey for a living, well, chances are, there's a reason why you're still calling juniors and not even the SPHL.
@brutemenderby it still works for me?
@GophHkyExmnr I figured, but didn't want to jump the gun without some sort of confirmation
@nsmitham980 I get errors. Must be a mobile issue.
@Joe_TOC I can definitely confirm that, brother. :)
