Your ESPN ScoreCenter app will have a new look and name the next time you update it. ESPN has officially launched their SportsCenter app which will arrive on your phone as an update to the original ScoreCenter app. Available for Apple and Android phones, the app is designed to offer a personalized mix of ESPN's content.
No worries - your live score updates haven't disappeared. Instead, the new SportsCenter app offers "enhanced scores" and expanded information. Considering the live score updates are the sole reason an approximate 43 million people installed the ScoreCenter app, let's hope the functionality is essentially the same.
The new app also includes news, ESPN Now features, a favorites list and a personal inbox to collect info and highlights.
one HUGE modification they need to do: if you're literally watching the game your phone is about to update you continuously on for the next three hours, the app should bring up a prompt message that asks you "Are you watching this game?" if you say "yes," it turns off all the alerts for that game instance. if you say "no," everything stays the same. yes app, i know the Blackhawks just scored, i watched it happen. i don't need you telling me 1 minute later.
it's an awful update. app crashes constantly. takes precious seconds to load and change tabs - which in "app time" is quite a bit. i don't like how it defaults to the news tab. i don't want news. i want to see my favorites. you should either be able to pick the default, or modify the order of the tabs as they appear that dictates what tab shows when you open the app.
