People are clearly into the 2013 MLB Postseason in a way they weren't into last year's, as ratings have risen nine percent over 2012 through Thursday's action. While TBS has one more game left of Division Series coverage, both TBS and Fox are ready and raring for the final two rounds of the playoffs.
Both networks announced their talent and programming for the remaining MLB Playoffs. Fox has the American League Championship Series this year, featuring the Boston Red Sox and the Detroit Tigers. Meanwhile, TBS gets the NLCS between the Los Angeles Dodgers and St. Louis Cardinals. Five games of each series will air in primetime, with two apiece being placed in the middle of the afternoon.
For the final time, Joe Buck and Tim McCarver will call a World Series (and ALCS) together. Ken Rosenthal and Erin Andrews will, like last year, serve as on field reporters. Ernie Johnson, Cal Ripken and Ron Darling will be put together for the NLCS on TBS, with Craig Sager reporting.
The studio coverage is where things start to get more elaborate. Matt Vasgersian will host Fox's studio coverage from MLB Network HQ in Secaucus, New Jersey during the ALCS, and live on site at the World Series. Harold Reynolds will join him throughout the playoffs, and current MLB stars Jimmy Rollins and AJ Pierzynski will join them for the World Series. During the first two games of the ALCS, the crew will be Vasgersian, Reynolds and NL batting champion Michael Cuddyer.
Fox is also making Fox Sports Live on FS1 a big part of things. Rollins, Gabe Kapler and Eric Karros will contribute postgame analysis during the ALCS. Host Ryan Field and analysts Rollins and Pierzynski will be live on-site at the Fall Classic. That threesome will also work together for a special pregame edition of Fox Sports Live prior to every weekday game of the World Series.
TBS has things a little more simply put. For the NLCS, Gary Sheffield is in, and Dirk Hayhurst is out. Sheffield joins host Keith Olbermann and fellow analysts Pedro Martinez and Tom Verducci. Rachel Nichols will file reports from the ALCS while the NLCS is airing on TBS.
