The worst professional year of Pam Oliver's life continued on Thursday. During her role as host of a Super Bowl breakfast on Thursday, Oliver managed to alienate nearly everyone in the crowd of around 50 New York business executives by insulting the Jets, the Giants, and the residents of the city itself. The New York Post has some of the quotes.
When Al Kelly, chairman of the New York-New Jersey Super Bowl Committee, was asked by Oliver how the committee would make sure people dressed appropriately for an outdoor game in February, he said there would probably be “a couple of idiots” who wouldn’t do so.
“Probably Jets fans,” Oliver said, prompting groans.
The crowd roared when she ask the team owners and Kelly how they planned “to instruct people of this area, particularly New Yorkers, to be nice? To say ‘please,’ ‘thank you’ and ‘I’ll get that’?”
Oliver quickly qualified that by saying, “I’m sorry — I’m from the South.”
But Tisch wasn’t pleased.
“I’m from New York City, and I take exception with that,” Tisch said. “New Yorkers are unbelievably hospitable.”
Oliver also insulted both the Giants and Jets, asking Jets owner Woody Johnson, "how does Rex keep his job?" and Giants treasurer Jonathan Tisch, "what the hell is wrong with the Giants?", which is actually a valid question.
Let's recap the past two months of Pam Oliver's life, shall we?
-On August 18th, she got hit in the head with a football, later revealing that the blow concussed her.
-On September 22nd, she nearly got leveled by the Ohio State marching band.
-On September 29th, she stammered her way through a terrible sideline report.
And now, the incident in New York. Oliver will be in Denver as the reporter for the Redskins-Broncos tilt, and I'd assume all eyes will be on her in case she has another screw-up.
As a Packers fan, I just want to say that Buck & Aikman have a blind hatred against the Packers and its fans.
I am shocked, SHOCKED I tell you that this paragon of brilliant reporting would screw up so badly. In all seriousness, how hard would it be for her to check the standings to see that the Jets are 4-3? I guess she hasn't had time to update her talking points since the season kicked off.
I get the feeling that she's feeling an enormous weight on her shoulders...and that weight is named Erin Andrews in that she knows EA is going to replace her sooner than later on the sidelines with Buck & Aikman.
@Jim Williams She needs to learn to 'joke around with the players before the game' like EA has been doing at the World Series.
