Chicago White Sox
fan broadcaster Hawk Harrelson sure took us on a journey this season. It was a year filled with disappointment for the South Siders, which meant there was no shortage of meltdowns in the booth.
He did everything from griping about blown calls to nearly cursing at the team for their inteptitude. He let out deep sighs in front of a live mic, and let's not forget those long stretches of silence after walk-off losses.
No one will ever say Hawk doesn't care. It's "The Will to Win" that drives him, after all.
We hope you enjoy this compilation of the best Hawk Harrelson meltdowns of the 2013 season.
Hawk is about SELF promotion, not promoting the game of baseball or the White Sox. He's got a little catch phrase for even the most basic plays, he makes it about Hawk and not about the team. He needs to go, and the sooner the better. I'm a life long Sox fan.
@scottolstad Hawk is the worst announcer is sports...maybe history.
NOT WORKING , Thanks for nothing. The HAWK may be imperfect, but he is passionate. Sometimes his emotions take over and he expresses them without
hesitation. A true legend to all White Sox fans.
@Joshoster i was so happy to see this. And then it wouldn't play
@thejoeball Its not working, but is the compilation of Hawk meltdowns? Classic.
@BarneyDirty30 LOL oh GAWD I needed that today haha. Even Sox fans realize how much of a homer Hawk is. But he's our homer.
Can of Corn, He Gone, sit back relax and strap it down, stretch, he looks up, dont stop now boys, chopper two hopper, the cat bird seat, gassss, and so many more. If your a sox fan you love Hawk and his passion for the team. He is their biggest fan and its refreshing to have a guy like that still around in the politically correct world now. Not every team has to have the same down the middle annoucer who could care less who wins. Leave that to Joe Buck.
@Mike_Hayes1 Yes! He'd be awesome to play golf with.
Hawk is not boring! He is absolutely entertaining in a sport that can get dull. I love Hawk and he's a reason I still watch the Sox when they're struggling. He's honest, lively, energetic, and actually humble. I can totally understand if you cheer for another team and you're watching Hawk and hate him. You don't want to see your guy SO and hear "He Gone!" But for me and my friends we will be saying Hawkisms for the rest of our lives.
If he was a fan and announcer for my team, I would hope he would be fired ASAP. He is just a flat-out horrible announcer. He does nothing for the game of baseball and is a disgrace to play-by-play announcers everywhere. The fact that he was right that Hernandez blew a call (in the first clip) is irrelevant to how he presented the call. His job is to announce, not to be a fan in the booth.
@awfulannouncing It's enjoyment to you, but it's like having breakfast with the annoying girl you met last night for White Sox fans....
@jh_moore 9.5 minutes. Oh my.
@rebexarama ok I made it like 10 seconds before I burst out laughing
@rebexarama oh I have been waiting for this
Give me a break with the griping about him being a fan - the man travels with the team and watches every move they make. If you love the game even a little you'll get invested in it. He's no more of a fan than the Giants' announcers or any other team who features their announcers on their World Series parade floats as part of the team.
That's no excuse. Hawk is completely off base 99.999999% of the time. Regardless if AH missed a very close call, HH is always yapping about the umpires and his style is annoying. Len over with the Cubs is much more even handed and they've been worse the WS for a long time.
@awfulannouncing the audio of the last clip is way too low.
@TwinkieTown To me, the most insidious thing is when he just shuts up when bad things happen to the Sox. His job is to call the whole game.
Hawk is the poorest excuse in MLB for a play-by-play announcer. He should have retired years ago. I cannot watch the White Sox because HH is unwatchable, then again so are the Sox.
@RandallRichardson A true legend in his own mind. I'm a Sox fan and he needs to get on outta here...
@apsteig Yes. Sorry for the bum link.
@mojo2121 I think the problem is that these guys don't know what bad announcing is because they've never seen or heard a Diamondbacks announcer.
I haven't heard much of Hawk, but I'd gladly take him over anyone the Diamondbacks have ever had - Brenneman, Sutton, and now some yahoo that makes Brenneman and Sutton look like Vin Scully.
@ChipSpangler actually since he is a team broadcaster, yes he is supposed to be a fan of the team. The national broadcasters that do not have a specific team to their name are the ones that are supposed to be unbiased and just give the play by play
@jh_moore in the clip of the one with the grand slam in extras with Seattle I just giggled more and more the longer he stayed silent
@Chicago Sports Fan Look, I'm a Cardinals fan, and I HATE when I have to listen to Hawk on highlight reels. But that was not a "very close" call, it's one that better umpires would get right something like 98% of the time. Angel Hernandez is an embarrassment, he thinks he's bigger than the game, and I would give large amounts of money to never see him or Country Joe West umpire another game.
@tedphx Why? He sucks.
@James_Mathewson It gets to the point where he's so terrible I almost start to enjoy it. Like a movie so bad you can't not watch.
@thejoeball I think it's that website; great site but I always seem to have trouble. Thanks for thinking of me; my hawk hatred is huge.
@rebexarama it's art.
