Here is your Week 8 College Football Announcing Schedule featuring the reunion of Brent & Herbie in this week's ABC primetime game.
The beginning of this week's Oregon State Beavers at California Goldenbears game was moved from ESPN2 to ESPNU, which they than Joined In Progress after the Conclusion of the LSU at Ole Miss game.
My apologies to Mr. Frede. At the conclusion of this evening's Princeton/Brown game, won by Princeton Tigers, the individual thought to be Mr. Frede as indicated in the above line-up of announcers and taken for granted as correct on my part , signed off as Jerry Trupiano. Well, that Trupiano character is everything that I thought Mr. Frede was because of the erroneous listing above. Mr. Trupiano is the fool and the lucky announcer to have a job irrespective of his lack of knowledge of the game he was called upon to describe! Again, my apologies to Mr. Frede!!!!
Watching Princeton/Brown on Fox Pacific now and I have heard many an awful announcer before but I think this Eric Frede may be the worst, most clueless play-by-play announcer I have EVER heard! He's working with Steve DeOssie, who is terrible but he is a former player and usually former athletes, with just a handful of exceptions, are terrible but Eric Frede who is doing this for a living(???) absolutely has no idea what he is watching.... I don't think I have ever heard anyone who calls a sport and does not know the game as this guy is demonstrating. I read his biography and it appears he has been at this inept work for SEVEN YEARS!!!! (2006) If I got away with the incompetence that this guy has, I would have a job. I get canned when I work like him.... Who are the folks doing the evaluating for Fox Sports??? Just horrible.....!!!!!
And Coastal Carolina/ Liberty will now feature Jason Benetti and Ray Jones as the announcers. Any other corrections that need to be made- just let me know and I'll get them updated on my site.
Trupiano himself was a pretty popular play-by-play announcer w/ the Boston Red Sox on the radio. However he hasn't had a regular play-by-play assignment since 2006 and hasn't done color commentary since 2008. All of those were baseball games. There's a huge difference between calling football and calling baseball. What you saw was the result of it.
You can read more details on Trupiano, if you chosse to, at his Wiki page- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jerry_Trupiano
@federer01 It wasn't an erroneous listing. First off, the Ivy League and Fox College Sports sent out a press release stating Eric Frede and Steve DeOssie would call all Ivy League on FCS games. Second, both the Princeton and Brown game notes listed that Eric Frede and Steve DeOssie would be calling the game. Third, the FOX weekly press release had Frede down calling the game. With that being said, I would suggest you calm down and think rationally. It was stated continually last year that announcing assignments are always subject to change. Illness can strike a person at any time and make them unable to call the game. Weather can also cause delays that may make an individual unable to get there on time. Obviously something occurred making Frede unable to make it. It was a last minute change according to 4 different sources, and with last minute changes, you basically take what you can get.
@federer01 Just remember that every announcer has the occasional bad game. Eric Frede was the voice of Ivy League football on SNY & FCS from 2004-2011. He didn't call any football games in 2012, but he was returned this year. DeOssie has been the analyst with him during that entire time. He is also the voice of Syracuse women's basketball and is the voice of Cape Cod baseball on FCS. Given his experience and how long he has had that spot, I would say that today was more of an ab-oration that the normalcy.
Thank you very much for your responses. I read about Trupiano when I heard him sign off at the conclusion of the game.
I'm looking forward to next week's huge Princeton/Harvard game on Fox College Sports!
