Like a cockroach surviving a nuclear winter, Craig James will not go away. After publicly falling into disgrace as a broadcaster and then becoming a failed Senate candidate, James can't accept a life out of the public eye. Instead he has to continue his crusade against greater society.
After Fox Sports Southwest was crazy enough to hire James, the bosses at the national office stepped in and unceremoniously dumped him after one weekend on the job. Now James is fighting back, claiming that Fox Sports fired him for his religious beliefs and doing what he does best - threatening a lawsuit. And he's doing so at one of the last outlets in the country that will give him a platform - Breitbart.com.
The James camp's claim is based on Fox's statement that it cut James due to past controversial statements during his Senate campaign, in particular saying that gays and lesbians would have to answer to the Lord for their actions. Here's what James told the site:
“I was shocked that my personal religious beliefs were not only the reason for Fox Sports firing me but I was completely floored when I read stories quoting Fox Sports representatives essentially saying that people of faith are banned from working at Fox Sports,” James told Breitbart News. “That is not right and surely someone made a terrible mistake.”
Yes, someone did make a terrible mistake - whoever it was that decided to bring this circus upon FSSW in the first place.
Does anyone really believe people of faith are banned from working at Fox Sports?
In light of James' posturing, Fox Sports released a more detailed statement to the Sherman Report saying his hiring at FSSW was not properly vetted:
“At Fox Sports we respect all points of view, and despite reports to the contrary, the decision to no longer use Craig James in our college football coverage was simply because he was not a good fit for Fox Sports. Mr. James, while both experienced and knowledgeable, is a polarizing figure in the college sports community. Regrettably, the decision to use him was not properly vetted, and as a result he will no longer provide commentary on Fox Sports Southwest’s college football coverage."
What an embarrassing saga for Fox Sports at the regional and national level. How did the execs at FSSW think this was a good idea? How is Craig James hired without being properly vetted? How were people at Fox's national offices aware of James' controversial history only after he was brought on at FSSW? If there's one takeaway in all of this it's the complete breakdown between Fox Sports and their southwestern affiliate. Were any decision maker to use common sense and realize the hiring of Craig James would only lead to problems then none of this frivolity would have happened.
History will long remember that Marv Albert crossdressed himself into a similar corner and came out wearing a network blazer. If Keith Oberman can get a paycheck from the Mouse after his history in Bristol, expect to see Craig James in focus once again.
@awfulannouncing he can go play in traffic
god gawd, how does James not have a show on Fox News already...righteous anger at his treatment by the "lamestream media"...it's Sarah Palin with a wang...
@awfulannouncing Craig James should file a lawsuit against himself for being stupid
@awfulannouncing America is threatening to sue Fox Sports for subjecting us to one weekend of Craig James
@awfulannouncing In his defense, isn't saying ignorant, bigoted comments usually cause for a promotion at a Fox related organization?
@awfulannouncing Did they lock him in a shed?
@awfulannouncing That seems to be his modus operandi. Suck at his job or make baseless accusations then get fired.
@awfulannouncing fox sports should be sued for hiring him
@awfulannouncing dislike CJ but it sounds like he might have a case.
@awfulannouncing No lawsuit can bring the SMU 5 back, though.
@awfulannouncing Isn't it odd that the James lawsuit demands Mike Leach be fired from WSU?
@awfulannouncing Fox Sports should file a lawsuit against themselves for hiring him in the first place
@awfulannouncing He probably has a case, but if his end game is to get back into broadcasting, this isn't the best move...
@awfulannouncing By the way, Kudos to you guys. Your piece on rivaling calls for Indians-White Sox last night was very amusing.
@awfulannouncing Fox Sports would like to call Mike Leach to the stand as a character witness against James
@awfulannouncing But, but...he's aweful!
@awfulannouncing Can't stand the guy, but he has a good legal case if he brings it.
@awfulannouncing somebody put this man in a closet and out of our misery
@awfulannouncing I don't blame Fox Sports for firing a guy who murdered multiple women in college.
@awfulannouncing They have cause, what with the hooker murders and all (jk Craig don't sue me)
@awfulannouncing Surprised Ted Cruz didn't find time to fit in his firing in his nonsense last night.
@awfulannouncing What a dope.
@awfulannouncing Craig James is... (changes channel).
@awfulannouncing of course he is...
@awfulannouncing he might have a case. Can't fire someone based on religious beliefs.
@awfulannouncing CJ is a crank. I can't stand him
good for him. couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. maybe he should donate his unemployment so SMU.
He should file a lawsuit and he should win. It's not his fault Fox didn't do a thorough job vetting him. He had a contract, and Fox breached it. They should pay up....
Maybe he wants to be a movie star...he can star with Sen Ted Cruz in the planned sequel to "Dumb and Dumber."
Maybe this is just a clever full Fox corporate strategy. Hire then Fire him to make him topical/relevant, send him out into the conservative media welfare state to make his bones, then u have a genuime wingnut martyr to sit along the other loonies on Fox News
