The BBC broadcasts the Olympics differently in the UK than NBC does in the United States. The main difference is that the Beeb airs all of its coverage live. Second, as a public broadcaster, there are no commercials except for a few promos. And third, their analysts literally take you closer to the action.

Just before the BBC’s live coverage of the men’s downhill on Sunday, skiing analyst Graham Bell took a handheld camera to record his trip down the men’s downhill course at the Rosa Khutor Alpine Center and did the entire run without poles!!! As you can see from the footage, it’s quite an amazing ride.

Our friends in the U.K. have told us that Bell does this regularly for the BBC’s skiing coverage so this is nothing new. But with the money the BBC has spent on the rights on the Olympics through 2020, you would think it could have invested in a GoPro camera to attach to Bell’s helmet so he would not have to ski without poles. Or maybe it went to its luge analyst ….
