We learned over the weekend that Brooke Burke-Charvet was suddenly fired as co-host of Dancing With the Stars and replaced by Erin Andrews. But, we didn't know why the sudden change.
Today, US Weekly is giving us that reason, a "source" says EA was brought in to reach the young male demographic…
Replacing Tom Bergeron's co-host is Fox Sports reporter Erin Andrews. And according to Us' insider, the blonde stunner's following factored into the casting decision.
"Everyone loved [Brooke], but the execs wanted a whole new show," the source revealed. Adding that Andrews' "young male following" was appealing to the network. "They're desperate for those viewers," the source added.
Okay, first of all, I think I know approximately zero guys who are now going to watch DWTS with Andrews as the new co-host. People are more interested in watching the show for the "talent" rather than the hosts, am I right? Also, let's keep in mind that this is a show that
Lindsay Lohan turned down, so it has bigger problems than finding a younger, hotter, co-host.
It's not like I would all of a sudden start watching it if Jay Cutler were named a co-host! (Okay, bad example, yes I would).
Second of all: this "following" of Andrews' they speak of… EA hosts Fox College Saturday and is supposed to be drawing an audience to Fox Sports 1, but last season the numbers were not pretty. If you google Fox College Saturday vs. College Gameday, first you get an image of a trash can, and then you see the numbers, which are not pretty.
Andrews still has her fans yes, but millions didn't flock to Fox Sports 1 from ESPN because she switched stations. They stayed with ESPN because it was a better and more established pregame show. The BEST audience Fox saw all season was 120,000 viewers, and that's not very high at all. So, if ABC is hoping for a following larger than that from fans that are supposedly going to tune into DWTS for no other reason than to see Erin Andrews, they might be SOL.
