Celebrity these days is a fickle, fleeting, monstrous thing. We inhabit a universe where Dee Dee Bonner, better known simply as "A.J. McCarron's mom" or "the woman that stands next to Katherine Webb" is in that class of fringe celebrities where we know her name and recognize her face, but don't fully understand why. We only know her for shallow reasons that are symptomatic of the reality age - GIF reaction shots, bro site slideshows, and who she's related to.
The downside to living in the magnifying glass of celebrity in the reality age is the magnifying glass. If you say something stupid, people are going to notice. After FSU's victory over Auburn last night, Bonner tweeted this insensitive remark during Jameis Winston's postgame interview to her 20,000 followers.
This tweet got deleted fast by Aj McCarron's mommy. pic.twitter.com/GjygWLs3ue— Richie (@PichieRalmer) January 7, 2014
If she had 2,000 followers instead of 20,000 followers, maybe that deleted tweet sneaks into the Twitter black hole never to be seen again. Alas, that's the price of celebrity and staying in the spotlight well beyond your 15 minutes of fame. To make matters worse for Bonner, Winston was actually a 4.0 student in high school.
Racism is defined as the belief that one race is superior to all others, if you had any critical thinking skills then you would come to the conclusion her tweet was not racist. Winston is from the South, as am I, I understand his use of a double negative; it's very common in Southern vernacular. Southern vernacular is "improper" English, so she has a right to her opinion and criticism of his English, as she has a right to criticize my English if I were to say y'all and ain't in an interview. As for the assumption that she's saying something just because he's black is wrong in my opinion. I made fun of Winston talking, but I also make fun of every football player because I think they're all as smart as a sack of potatoes; white, black, Asian, Filipino, Hispanic so on and so forth.
Racist? You peoole need to stop playing victim . Smart or dumb, black or white, the guy sounded like a moron.
There are some sick people on this site. Winston, I pray that you go to the top, and know that the sky is the limit for you.
100% guarantee that if everything about Winstons interview was 100% exactly the same, but Winston was White then she never sends that tweet, that is a guarantee
A very big thank you Dee Dee Kent McCarron Bonner McCarron (back to previous married name because NFL) for showing the world your ugly bitterness & disgusting hypocrisy. She may not be racist but she is infamous for attacking people on Twitter who critique her son. She loves to promote herself as a charitable soul who loves children yet has never, not once, tried to promote the efforts to find her brother's (Dustin Kent) niece (Brittney Wood) who vanished without a trace almost two years ago from his neighborhood even before he was arrested. She knew Brittney and has never spoken up for her or spoken out against her brother's multiple charges of r@pe & incest of multiple children under 12 (large family pedo ring). She has never distanced herself from her parents who housed him & are likely the mysterious benefactor's paying for his very expensive attorney. Your brother goes to court in Baldwin County on Friday for five of his numerous charges, correct? Hope that karma bus keeps on rolling through Mobile County!
Instead of saying something like that, why not congratulate him. Show a little class don't be a sore loser. If he has bad grammar then encourage him .
I think she is just a sore loser and really needs to grow up..Haters will always hate no matter how good you are.
I'm sure she regrets tweeting that but she did have a very valid point. I know I was thinking the same thing and I also saw several posts on Facebook about his poor vocabulary. All she did was tweet what everybody I know was already thinking. He's a great football player but not the best speaker. Of course it doesn't really matter how good or bad his broken English is but it's obvious that she made a good point.
If Winston was white and she said the same thing not one person would say a thing about the tweet you stupid ignorant fuck. Winston sounded like a fool. Like he was in grade school much less a "student fucking athlete."
@KristinaScottCleymanFirst of all, it is spelled "speech". Secondly, just because you have the freedom to say something does not mean you always should. Your 1st Amendment Rights are not a free pass to say whatever you want all the time. A civil person controls their tongue and they realize that there are thoughts they need to stay in their head and never be verbalized. Also, "freedom of speech" works two ways; if you say something stupid, be prepared for others to exercise their right to criticize you for it.
Please take a gov 101 class and learn what exactly freedom of speech entails. No one is saying she doesn't have the right to be hateful. No one is taking her to jail for her comments. Freedom of Speech does not mean you can't be laughed at for your ignorance. Please educate yourself. You sound so uneducated.
I don't think anyone is debating anything about freedom of speach (sic).. She has the right to say whatever she wants too. It's just one person criticizing someone else (albeit because it sounds like she's a sore loser).
@sir boxington Careful now...Jameis is from Alabama, sooooo....
@sir boxington well just look at the rest of her family... especially her brother Dustin Kent. It was only a matter of time before the world caught a glimpse of the real Dee Dee - not racist but a huge hypocrite!
It's funny how judgmental you (Chris Webster) and DeeDee can be. I'm sure you always speak properly and have great command of "the King's English"...If Jameis had been white, on Alabama's or Auburn's Team. i doubt very seriously Ms. McCarron would have tweeted such a message (look inward)
Agreed. Sore loser? Maybe - but the guy is a college student without a grasp of basic grammar rules, and that's pretty disturbing.
Instead of posting something like that could she have posted congratulations instead . #sorelooser
#critic #noninspiring #classless
Keep it salty, haters.
When he's really excited or nervous he trips over words with a mic in front of him at the ripe old age of 20 years to the day...stop the press and tweet about it!
He had a 4.0 and was accepted to Stanford. I'm guessing McCarron's mommy's academic achievements are..not so much.
That was my point exactly! Only an idiot like her couldn't understand him! She was just jealous and being an idiot because the football world loves the kid, and were not mentioning her son!
If he wasn't speaking English, what language was he speaking? Just curious. There are after all derivations on English speech. For example, in England there is such a thing as cockney, which is almost unintelligible from the rest of English used in England. Or what do you make of welsh, Irish, scotish "English." Perhaps regionalism doesn't exist? Just curious? Also, isn't rap music pop music? So it follows that he is speaking the English of pop culture. Actually, I'm confused--what does college football have to do with English, Standard English, Academics, etc? Good game Winston!
Can always spot a bigot from their irrational responses to any comment that raises race. Such a shame for u that the North won & the civil rights act must drive u insane
The first amendment has to do with a right to say something, not propriety. The limits of the first amendment include things like slander, threats and endangering lives. Tweeting things like this are perfectly legal, and you have as much of a first amendment right to criticize her as she has a first amendment right to criticize a college student with a poor grasp of sentence structure.
You are all idiots. Living in your little UN-cultured glass houses. If you live in any state south of Canada, you should have no problem understanding what that national champion said. Especially if you're from Alabama! Dumb bitch.
Thank you rainbaby. Brains and beauty.
@rc1292What didn't you understand? Hmmm, an excited 20 year old with a high school 4.0 that was accepted to Stanford. I'll bet you stumble over yourself trying to talk to girls.
@healthguyfsu I absolutely agree with you regarding youth and excitement impacting his not speaking in complete sentences last night. I also agree that McCarron's Mom should have just been quiet (which she obviously realized).
As to his 4.0 GPA, that's no indication of his intelligence or knowledge. I hire too many college grads (most from a well-respected university) and am appalled at how poorly they write and their lack of knowledge in some areas. I also think Winston's incredible athletic talents garnered him an offer from Stanford and was not based on his supposed academic skills.
Of course, none of this takes away from his skill as a quarterback. He is thrilling to watch.
He is playing "college football" do you know what a college is ? This is the stupidist post I've ever seen.
@ozsportsdude I actually think you're a huge racist for expecting a black man to speak so unintelligibly. If you can't see how grammatically incoherent some of his sentences are, then I think you need to go back to grade school. (For the record, I have no idea what your ethnic background is, and I'm not white)
It doesn't matter who gets criticized for what stupid thing they say- it happens to anyone in the spotlight. People relentlessly mocked Bush's pronunciation of "nuclear" (deservedly so), but it wasn't racially motivated.
Baseless accusations of racism like this actually hinder the advancement of minorities in this country by diluting the issues and are a big reason many people don't take valid racial concerns seriously.
the proof the white guy never gets the criticism that the Black QB gets is to go and See AJ McCarron after last years championship when he is told about LeBron following his girlfriend and he sounds just the same, unhinged and joyous, only difference he sounds Southern hick whereas Jameis is more urban. I dont begrudge or criticise AJ but find it interesting no-one else did but everyone is so happy to do it to the Black QB
His English was fine, he spoke with unbridled enthusiasm, joy & passion. The racism is that yet again the black athlete cops criticism that u never hear targeted at the white athlete. Give me the example of the white athlete copping the same criticism
