Darren Sproles is one of the great all-purpose players in the NFL, so it came as a bit of a surprise when it became revealed that the New Orleans Saints were going to release him as a part of their spring cleaning project.  Sproles set an NFL record for all purpose yards in 2011 but his production had dropped each of the last 2 seasons.  In 2013 Sproles scored 4 TDs and had 1273 all purpose yards, the lowest of his career.

Still though, Sproles is a one-of-a-kind talent and a competitive market was clearly going to develop for his services.  Considering the amount of teams interested in the 30 year old back, it was reported that the Saints weren't going to cut Sproles and instead seek out a trade partner.

Apparently, nobody told Darren Sproles.  He found out the news through an ESPN tweet.

If you're the Saints, you might as well try to get something for a guy you were going to cut anyways.  Sproles is one of the few players to have the reporting frenzy surrounding free agency actually cost him something tangible.  Now instead of going to the team of his choice, it looks like his new home may be decided by a trade.  Hopefully he doesn't find out through social media this time.
