Christian Ponder would like you to know that Samantha Steele has nothing to do with why he sucks

on .

Christian Ponder would probably love to blame his recent struggles on something or someone other than himself, but as a fellow human being possessing X and Y chromosomes, I can tell you that by refusing to throw his relatively new girlfriend Samantha Steele under the bus, Ponder is doing the right thing.

KFAN's Paul Allen gave Ponder that opportunity in a radio interview earlier this week, but Ponder was smart enough to declare that his relationship with ESPN personality Samantha Steele was in no way affecting his performance... at least on the field of play.

Alexi Lalas is your current Movember champion

Written by Matt Yoder on .

Movember is a true blessing.  Not only does it result in raising awareness and funds for men's health, but it gives us some pretty awesome mustaches.  As far as broadcasters go, the Movember leader in the clubhouse has to be Alexi Lalas.  The ESPN soccer analyst was sporting this exquisite look during the network's coverage of the MLS playoff game between San Jose and Los Angeles, which is actually a remnant from his more terrifying Octobeard.  (Soon enough we'll find a way to not have to shave for every month of the year, although the Octobeard to Movember transition is such a natural one.)

Lalas of course has sported some pretty outrageous facial hair in his younger days, but the mustachioed look is a keeper, even beyond this month.  Movember is still young, so hopefully another contender in the sports world gives him a decent challenge.

Video: David Stern tries his hand at play by play, receives endless praise

Written by Matt Yoder on .

NBA Emperor David Stern made a guest appearance in the Root Sports booth as the Jazz were on the road in Memphis this week.  While Stern's commentary is predictably non-descript, what truly stands out about this clip is the backslapping of Stern by the Jazz broadcasters, Craig Bolerjack and Matt Harpring.  Judging by their effusive acclamation of Stern, you'd think he was Marv Albert and Doug Collins rolled into one as a broadcasting savant.

Of course, what other choice do the Jazz announcers have?  Were they to do anything short of build an altar to Stern at the announce table, he may have fired them on the spot.  (He apparently can do that you know.)

Alabama-LSU crushes college football competition for CBS

Written by Joe Lucia on .

bamalsu

The overnight ratings for Saturday's college football games represented season-highs for Fox and CBS... and a record-low for ABC. CBS crushed the competition with a thrilling Alabama-LSU matchup that drew a 7.0 overnight. Fox's USC-Oregon matchup drew a respectable 3.5 overnight. Meanwhile, the Oklahoma State-Kansas State game was down 10% to a 1.9 overnight from last year's matchup between the same two teams, the previous lowest rated Saturday night game on ABC.

Lamar Odom forgets he plays for the Clippers now

Written by Matt Yoder on .

Lamar Odom was doing a spot for his new team, the Los Angeles Clippers, and introduced himself as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers.  This is actually Odom's second go around with the Clippers, who he started his NBA career with, but he did spend seven good years with the Lakers, so perhaps it's understandable.  At least he didn't say, "Hi, I'm Lamar Odom of the Dallas Mavericks"... or introduce himself as one half of Khloe & Lamar.

Video: Here's your Election Night blooper reel

Written by Matt Yoder on .

Last night President Obama won a second term by holding off the challenge of Governor Mitt Romney.  This is great news because this process is finally over and we can go back to our normal lives.  Gone are the endless supply of awful ads.  Gone are the insufferable tweets encouraging you to vote.  Gone are the annoying Facebook statuses from that "friend" you met that one time in college whose life mission is to convince you to agree with their political candidate of choice via Facebook.  Gone is all the haughtiness from all corners of the interwebs.  Ok, that last one is still going to be there.

And while the only candidate we endorse this year is Skip Bayless, who will soon appear on AA's Mount Rushmore after winning our own Election Day poll yesterday, a media event this big deserves some semblance of coverage from us.  So, we scoured the web to come up with the best blooper reel moments from 2012 Election coverage from across the country...

UCLA coach Jim Mora Has Near Meltdown Over Fake Twitter Account

Written by Andrew Coppens on .

Ahh, social media - sometimes we love you a little too much. In fact it caused a near meltdown for UCLA head coach Jim Mora on Tuesday after someone created a fake Twitter account for one of his players, Richard GoForth, on Monday night. He's a freshman on the Bruins team and isn't even a member of the Twitterverse himself. But the real story is perhaps the fact that Mora was so peeved by the fake account that he wants the man or woman behind it to go to jail.

Kris Humphries has his finger on the pulse of the nation

Written by Matt Yoder on .

Kris Humphries of the Brooklyn Nets gets his 2012 election information from only the best sources...

In a word, no.

Thankfully, Humphries turned on a working television and discovered the real results of tonight's election.  (Hopefully.)  You'd have to forgive Humphries though, I can imagine after going through a fake Kardashian wedding it's difficult to tell what's real in the world.

Also, Rob Lowe is a cab driver now???
