San Jose Sharks announcer Randy Hahn received a puzzling letter in the mail from a rental car company in Edmonton. Hahn had recently rented a car from the company while the Sharks were visiting the Edmonton Oilers, but he wasn't sure why they were contacting him after his trip. As it turns out, Hahn was driving a bit too fast on Wayne Gretzky Drive in Alberta and was caught speeding by a traffic camera. 

The result? A humorous and pretty ironic $99 ticket that matches The Great One's sweater number.

With this year by all accounts being one of the most muddled, unpredictable NFL Drafts, what better time than this to examine just how much of an expert the alleged NFL Draft experts truly are.  In this day and age, nearly every NFL fan with access to a keyboard and the internet attempts to project the 31st pick in the NFL Draft with the accuracy of Joe Bauserman.  (What you thought I would make a Tebow joke, there?)

Mock drafts are a dime a dozen and taking them with a grain of salt may be giving too much credence to these prognostications.  While guys like Mel Kiper, Todd McShay, and Mike Mayock have made a career out of studying the drafts, you might be surprised with just how much of an inexact science proves to be.  Between trades shaking up the 1st Round order, smokescreens, and players rising or falling, projections from respected national writers and draft experts fall well below the Mendoza line.

Wednesday night I compiled 12 mock drafts from around the internet from ESPN, NFL Network, NFL.com, Yahoo, CBS, Bleacher Report, and more.  These results were the most recent mock draft published at that time and excluded any draft day changes a mocker could make in the hours leading up to the event.

The recent E! upfronts wound up surprising us – mostly because they don’t have every single time slot dedicated to a Kardashian (really, I’m surprised Keeping Up With Rob’s Sock Business hasn’t been made yet). But also, because the network is trying to out-dumb itself with new, horrible, reality TV shows.

We already gave you multiple examples of how reality TV and athletes do not mix. And yet, here we are again.

Earlier today we shared our report card for ESPN's coverage of Round 1 of the NFL Draft.  Now it's NFL Network's turn.  Would their draft grades fare worse or better than their competition in Bristol? Here's our report card for the key contributors involved in NFL Network's live coverage of Round 1 of the NFL draft.

Two years ago, we gave ESPN their due for finally realizing that less was indeed more in their coverage of the 1st round of the NFL Draft. Gone was the cast of thousands, gone were Steve Young and others constantly butting in with nothing to say. Instead, ESPN trimmed the fat by reducing the main stage to draft veterans Chris Berman and Mel Kiper Jr. and new centerpiece to the ESPN NFL stable, Jon Gruden. The streamlined 2011 ESPN broadcast was immediately an upgrade over past years. However, last year ESPN failed to further evolve the coverage, stubbing their toe with an inability to keep up with unfolding events. Also, ESPN once again struggled with their insiders tipping picks throughout the round, infuriating some viewers. How would this year's coverage, the emphasis on preserving the entertainment aspect of the draft, and ESPN's stable of draft personnel fare when facing our own draft grades?

On Thursday's edition of MLB Now, Hawk Harrelson joined Brian Kenny and Harold Reynolds to discuss his disdain of sabermetrics. Of course, Harrelson's appearance did nothing to prove his point (as you can tell in the video above), and drove fans up the wall. Longtime ESPN college basketball analyst Digger Phelps has been diagnosed with bladder cancer, according to a network announcement late Thursday night.  The former Notre Dame Fighting Irish coach has been a mainstay on ESPN's college basketball coverage for two decades as one of the network's most identifable studio analysts.  More from ESPN:

"Television analyst and former Notre Dame coach Digger Phelps has been diagnosed with bladder cancer, ESPN announced Thursday.

Phelps has had surgery and will start follow-up treatment next week near his home in South Bend, Indiana.

In a statement, Phelps said that "he and his family appreciate your thoughts and prayers as he prepares for the 2013-2014 college basketball season."

Phelps, 71, has been a college basketball analyst for ESPN since 1993. He coached the Fighting Irish for 20 years from 1972-1991."

Well wishes have already poured in from around college basketball and Phelps' ESPN broadcast colleague Dick Vitale tweeted an encouraging statement that Phelps' cancer had been caught early and he was optimistic.
