Here's how you can win a free 30 for 30 Blu Ray set through AA

Written by Ben Koo on .

Bad news guys. After tomorrow's 30 for 30, we're unlikely to see any new installments for 5 months plus.  With that in mind, we thought we'd try to soften the blow by giving away 2 free 30 for 30 Blu Ray sets which includes the first 30 documentaries as well as over 5 hours of bonus features. I haven't watched the bonus footage but ideally I would love to see:

- Ricky Williams and his poker buddies smoking weed narrated by Norman Chad

- Hidden camera footage of Donald Trump's hair and makeup preparations

- Footage of Luther Campbell and Miami football players celebrating the student athlete lifestyle

So what do you have to do to be entered to win? Simple.

- We'll be giving away one copy to a lucky individual (random drawing....might involve ping pong balls) who signs up for our newsletter (preview below) between now and Thursday morning.

- We'll also be giving away one copy to a lucky individual (random drawing....might involve ping pong balls) who likes our page on Facebook.

If you take the plunge on both fronts, you'll be entered to win twice and more importantly we'll like you a lot more. As you can see below, the AA newsletter is an assortment of stories you might have missed from us, the rest of the web, as well as some great media related tweets from the past couple of days. A great way to stay up on the sports media space.

Tom Hammond says leaving Notre Dame was mutual decision

Written by Matt Yoder on .

hammond

Earlier this week NBC announced Dan Hicks would be taking over for Tom Hammond as the play by play man for Notre Dame football.  The ND job is one of the most glamorous at NBC outside Sunday Night Football and the Olympics.  I's quite a rare occurance in this day and age in broadcasting to see a switch made in such a high profile job, especially when the broadcaster exiting the booth is staying with the network.  Hammond signed a multi-year contract extension with NBC that will take him through the next Summer Olympics in 2016.

It could represent an awkward situation at NBC with the 50 year old Hicks replacing the 69 year old Hammond, but the old voice of Notre Dame football says he wanted cut back his workload while continuing to broadcast the potpourri of NBC's other properties.  Hammond told the Kansas City Star it was a mutual decision...

Discouraging news in the wee hours of Sunday morning as one of the top announcers in this or any era was reportedly arrested in Santa Monica on suspicion of DUI Friday night.  TMZ broke the story that NBC's Al Michaels failed a field sobriety test after being pulled over and was placed under arrest...

Jack Edwards compares Matt Cooke to Sirhan Sirhan

Written by David Rogers on .

Emotions were running high following a moving pregame ceremony as the Boston Bruins hosted the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday afternoon, just hours after an extensive manhunt for one of the Boston Marathon bombing suspects concluded.

Unfortunately, this emotion apparently got the best of NESN announcer Jack Edwards as he made an inappropriate (and bizarre) comparison between Pittsburgh's Matt Cooke and Sirhan Sirhan, the man that assassinated Robert F. Kennedy, just over 10 minutes into the first period.

David Ortiz proclaims: "This is our f*cking city!"

Written by Matt Yoder on .

Before today's Red Sox game in their first game back in Boston, David Ortiz unleashed a raw, emotional, awesome speech thanking the Boston police department and fans.  He ended by saying "This is our f*cking city!" and encouraging a packed Fenway Park to stay strong.  I think this is one time few people are going to complain about letting that get through the network censors.

UPDATE: Here's the official FCC response:

MLB Network airing postponed Red Sox game today

Written by Matt Yoder on .

fenway

The Boston Red Sox return home today for their first game in Boston since the marathon bombings and manhunt for Dzhokar Tsarnaev came to a triumphant conclusion Friday night.  The city of Boston returns to life after being shut down for the length of the day Friday after Thursday night's shootout and subsequent hunt for the younger brother.  Both the Red Sox and Bruins were supposed to play last night, but those games were postponed until this afternoon.

MLB Network will air the Red Sox-Royals game from Fenway Park at 1:00 PM ET in what is sure to be an emotional scene that will parallel Wednesday night's Bruins-Sabres game.  In addition, both MLB Network and ESPN will have live pregame coverage from Fenway.  ESPN will have coverage anchored by Jeremy Schapp while Greg Amsinger anchors MLB Network's coverage.

NHL Network will also provide national coverage of today's Penguins-Bruins game at 12:30 PM ET.

Screengrab Snafu: Braves beat... Chiefs?

Written by Matt Yoder on .

If you've ever wondered what it's like to see how the world outside the US views American sports, Sky Sports in the UK offers pretty consistent coverage of the NFL and other professional leagues.  I know because I have the site bookmarked for my EPL and darts coverage.  However, this headline went awry earlier this week when they mixed up their Kansas City sports teams.  Although, in fairness, the Chiefs might have just as good of a shot masquerading as the Royals than they would masquerading as an NFL team.

H/T to whoever sent the link in to us hundreds of Twitter replies ago. You know who you are!

Ranking all 48 primetime games on the 2013 NFL schedule

Written by Brad Gagnon on .

The 2013 NFL schedule has been released, complete with 48 primetime games and 51 nationally-televised games. One more Week 17 game will be added to the prime-time slate when NBC gets its final Sunday flex, and there's a chance the final six Sunday Night Football games on the current sked change on the fly as a result of flex scheduling. In the meantime, though, here's how we rank the 48 primetime options we currently have to work with...
